  The major work of Rabbi Moses Almosnino (1515-1580), “Conduct of Life,” remains to this day an essential reference in classical Judeo-Spanish literature, now finally available in English in its first translation. First published in Ladino in 1564 as, Sefer Hanhagat ha-hayim and in 1729 as “Regimiento de la vida”, this three-volume edition is part of the prestigious collection Veritas è terra orietur. The work aims to disseminate the timeless teachings of ethics, in the words of the author: “In all that has been said, my intention is only to make you understand how the one who follows the path of virtue and customs of practising good and pure knowledge since childhood, lives a happy and fulfilled life (Volume 1, chapter 2)” This second volume addresses the confusion of indeterminism with free will (Volume 2, chapter 1) and how virtues arise from free will to surpass the force of destiny chapter 2), their conditions (chapter 3); the three types of strength or courage, which is the first virtue (chapter 4), its five properties and eleven conditions (chapter 5); as well as the ten ethical virtues, temperance (chapter 6), the sixteen properties of liberality chapters 7-8), magnificence (chapter 9), magnanimity and its fifty properties (chapter 10-12), modesty (chapter 13), meekness (chapters 14-16), affability (chapter 17), honesty or truth (chapters 18-19), and courtesy (chapter 20); following the order and numbering of Aristotle's Nicomachean Ethics.“Conduct of Life” draws heavily from the Nicomachean Ethics but transcends this source by situating itself at the universal intersection of several traditions: Greco-Arabic philosophy, Judeo-Christian scholasticism, classical Sephardic Judaism, and medieval Jewish thought. Thus, this work contributes to peace and intercultural understanding among peoples.

  During the civil war that ravaged Sierra Leone from 1991 to 2002, an estimated 20,000 children were forced to join the fighting. As villages were raided and youths rounded up, it was not uncommon for a child to be ordered to kill a friend, relative, or neighbor. The goal was to make it impossible for the captives to return home and be accepted back into their communities. 
   
   
   
  But when the conflict ended, many of the children did find their way home. Theresa Betancourt and her collaborators in Sierra Leone launched a study of more than 500 boys and girls who had been pulled into the war, tracking them for over two decades. The results were surprising: despite everything they had suffered, this was not a lost generation. In fact, the most dominant trend was one of healing and increasing acceptance. The lives of the former child soldiers were shaped not just by their personal ordeals but also by the responses of their families, peers, and communities. Shadows into Light describes heartbreak and despair but also remarkable triumphs. 
   
   
   
  Betancourt's study provides insight into the long-term psychological and developmental effects of family separation, war, and exposure to violence. The lessons go beyond Sierra Leone's tragedy, suggesting that we should think of children's risk and resilience more as products of the post-trauma environment than as individual traits.

  Iran's nuclear program has long been a subject of intense global scrutiny and diplomatic tension. This uncertainty fueled widespread fear, particularly among Western powers and regional rivals like Israel, who viewed a nuclear-armed Iran as a direct threat to regional stability and global security. 
  The United States, along with its allies, pursued a variety of diplomatic efforts and imposed harsh economic sanctions in response to Iran’s nuclear activities. These sanctions targeted key sectors of Iran’s economy, including its oil exports and banking system, and were intended to pressure the Iranian government into compliance with international demands for greater transparency and restrictions on its nuclear program. Despite these measures, Iran's leadership remained defiant, and negotiations over the future of the nuclear program became increasingly complex. 
    
  The culmination of years of diplomatic maneuvering was the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), a landmark agreement reached in 2015 between Iran and six major world powers—the United States, United Kingdom, France, Russia, China, and Germany. The deal promised to significantly limit Iran's nuclear activities in exchange for sanctions relief. The JCPOA was heralded as a major achievement in international diplomacy, seen as a model for how nations could come together to resolve contentious issues through negotiation rather than military confrontation.
