Beschreibung

Life of John Sterling is a biography by Thomas Carlyle. John Sterling was a Scottish 19th century author known for his novels, poesy and fantasy stories. Excerpt: "By Mr. Hare's account, no priest of any Church could more fervently address himself to his functions than Sterling now did. He went about among the poor, the ignorant, and those that had need of help; zealously forwarded schools and beneficences; strove, with his whole might, to instruct and aid whosoever suffered consciously in body, or still worse unconsciously in mind. He had charged himself to make the Apostle Paul his model; the perils and voyagings and ultimate martyrdom of Christian Paul, in those old ages, on the great scale, were to be translated into detail, and become the practical emblem of Christian Sterling on the coast of Sussex in this new age. "It would be no longer from Jerusalem to Damascus," writes Sterling, "to Arabia, to Derbe, Lystra, Ephesus, that he would travel: but each house of his appointed Parish would be to him what each of those great cities was,—a place where he would bend his whole being, and spend his heart for the conversion, purification, elevation of those under his influence. The whole man would be forever at work for this purpose; head, heart, knowledge, time, body, possessions, all would be directed to this end." A high enough model set before one:—how to be realized!—Sterling hoped to realize it, to struggle towards realizing it, in some small degree."

This is a book with three short, separate books in it, but the topics are all somehow related. The titles relate to these topics:
Topic 1: Introverts are introverts, but did you know that there are different kinds of introverts?

Aside from touching on this particular topic, this book will also teach you more about how to embrace your inner introvert and make things work for you. Additionally, the we will empathize with you and tell you about how it feels to be misunderstood as an introvert. The main quest in most people’s lives is happiness, and to introverts, this can be a special challenge when mixed messages are being conveyed to us by the media or the culture in which we live.

Topic 2: Why are some people empaths?

What is the science behind this?

And why are some empaths more susceptible to addictions?

These and many other questions will be addressed in this brief guide. On top of that, you will learn more about narcissism versus empathy, how to become a more empathetic spouse, the dangers of social media, healing methods for empaths with traumatic memories, and what the difference is between empathic parenting and “rescue” parenting. All of these topics will help you understand empathy, empaths, and yourself better.
Topic 3: Are you or is anyone you know a highly sensitive person?

In order to answer that question, we have to study the subject, and what distinguishes such a person from others who have “regular” levels of sensitivity. The journey begins in a person’s childhood. Highly sensitive children react differently to the heightened impulses that enter their brains. These stimuli shape their character, their behavior, and their talents.

"This book was among the first ten on investing I ever read. . . . It remains important for anyone seriously interested in capital markets, financial journalism, or even their own personal investments." —From the Foreword by Ken Fisher, CEO of Fisher Investments and Forbes columnist
"Loeb tells us to put all our eggs in one basket, and watch the basket." —John Rothchild, Financial Columnist, Time magazine
"This book is very special in my life. It is the very first Wall Street book I ever read. After reading 1,200 additional finance books, The Battle for Investment Survival's principles and concepts are still valid for consistent success." —Victor Sperandeo, Author of Trader Vic on Commodities
In The Battle for Investment Survival, the turf is Wall Street, the goal is to preserve your capital at all costs, and to win is to "make a killing without being killed." This memorable classic, originally written in 1935, offers a fresh perspective on investing from times past. The Battle for Investment Survival treats investors to a straightforward account of how to profit—and how to avoid profit loss—in what Loeb would describe as the constant tug-of-war between rising and falling markets. This audio edition is deftly narrated by Scott R. Pollak, narrator of Benjamin Graham and David Dodd's timeless best-seller, Security Analysis.
