Summary

Ralgwin is determined to avenge his uncle and carry out his mission of overthrowing the Forthorthian royal families, but it’s becoming increasingly clear that the villains he’s assembled to assist him don’t necessarily share his goals. The rebel leader is in for a betrayal he never saw coming, with far more at stake than he ever imagined.

Meanwhile, Koutarou and the girls are preparing for the dramatic unveiling of the new Blue Knight, Forthorthe’s first knight-class battleship. A preliminary inspection of the craft turns up an unexpected development—a shadowy new face asking them to do the unthinkable.

The sequel nobody wants. After a decade of the Tories, could it get any worse? Spoiler – it does.

Towards the end of 2021, Britain had been frogmarched into an escalating series of surreal calamities. Brexit was a disaster, the NHS was in crisis, the government was bathed head-to-toe in impropriety, senior Tories were still acting as though the public purse was their personal feed-trough, and the air crackled with anger about PartyGate. All of which led to an inglorious start to 2022: the year the UK saw two monarchs, three prime ministers and four chancellors.

From Boris Johnson, who crashed our international reputation and handed billions to his mates so they could ineptly fight a pandemic while he stayed at home, shagging and acting as a super-spreader; to Liz Truss, a drive-by prime minister who managed to kill off the queen and crash the economy in a single week. And now we’re led by Rishi Sunak, who doesn’t know how to use a credit card, drives a pretend car, and grinningly promises even more poverty.

Four Chancellors and a Funeral delivers more of Russell Jones’s signature scathing wit, combining a detailed historical record of 2021 and 2022, with acerbic commentary, all of it leavened by jokes at the seemingly endless maelstrom of failures, nincompoops and hypocrisies.

Fossdyke Retirement Home has seen its fair share of quirky characters, but it’s never seen the likes of these four geriatric musicians who form a band called Fossils.
Chaos erupts after winning a national competition, when a local DJ who entered their recording into the contest labels Fossils as a vibrant young rock band.
Fearing the English press persecuting them and their families when they find out the truth, the four flee England until they can resolve their situation.
Follow the madcap adventures of Britain’s most irreverently lovable elderly rockers as they trip, stumble, and fall into one situation after another while traveling around Southeast Asia evading adoring fans, journalists, and a ruthless record producer.

All's fair in love and war . . . ESPECIALLY with your grumpy, smoking hot, former football-superstar neighbor.

Bex: Expecting solitude from my new home shouldn't be the exception. But when you move next door to the grumpiest human on earth, what's a girl to do? Austin Porter may be a former football star, but this man does not have an attitude of gratitude.

When the strip of land that divides our properties becomes a literal bone of contention, we finally find something we can both agree on: war. Only, I don't want to fight. I want to show this man that sometimes, the greatest comebacks happen once you're off the field.Austin: Was I defined by the game I played? Probably. Judging by the darkness I seem to be most comfortable sinking into, the memory of days now gone by is a weight that threatens to drown my soul. Then she moves in next door.I never expected a woman like Bex to appear and get me so fired up, but I can see a beacon of light for the first time in a long time. She's everything I'm not––warm, caring, full of life. And I'm pretty sure I'm falling in love with her.

This series of tales was compiled during the recent pandemic lockdown and they include colourful incidents in the lives of bonesetters, matchmakers, youthful lovers, newcomers from beyond the mountains, a reformed villain’s wedding, celebrated by the whole community for days thereafter, and lots more. This is the second volume and has been written once more in a lyrical language similar to that of past storytellers such as Mark Twain - enthralling and unbelievable at times.Reflections should certainly appeal to those not only with an interest in Ireland’s social history but to fans of the author’s earlier novels."An effortless evocation of an almost-forgotten world...wonderfully personable narration and endlessly charming characterisation."
