Included in this book are 366 tarot spreads, one for each day of the year, any year, to inspire stories and overcome writer’s block. You can use this guide to find movies to watch today, or you can use it for inspiration in your writing, whether you’re a screenwriter, a novelist, or any kind of fiction writer.

Some spreads list up to 20 movie suggestions but pay attention to the rare or unique combinations listing none if you’re looking for unusual story ideas. All cards have properties explained in the first pages. The major arcana are powerful and tend to narrow down movie lists. They have more properties than minor arcana, which offer broader results.

This tool tells you what kind of movies have rarely or never been made and warns you about saturated niches. In theory, for every film listing, the lower the frequency indicator, the more unique the concept. If you get no results, you should probably write that story.

These writing prompts are based on about 3000 horror and horror-adjacent movies I’ve reviewed and rated.

ALICE COLTRANE (1937–2007) was a composer, master of various musical instruments, improviser, spiritual leader, and wife of John Coltrane. Throughout her adult life, she worked within and combined a broad range of musical genres, including gospel, R&B, bebop, free jazz, Indian devotional song, and Western art music. She recorded more than twenty full-length albums for Impulse and Warner Bros. Scripting Empire recovers the literary and cultural history of West Indian and West African writing at the BBC in order to rethink the critical mid-century decades of shrinking British sovereignty, late modernism, and mass migration to the metropole. Between the 1930s and the 1960s, a remarkable group of black Atlantic artists and intellectuals became producers, editors, and freelancers at the corporation. Operating at the interface of a range of literary and broadcast genres, this loose network of African Caribbean writers and thinkers prompt a reassessment of the aesthetic, formal, and political fallout of decolonization between the outbreak of World War II and the first airings of post-colonial independence.
