Synopsis

“No amount of gold could save me from the gallows now…” 
  
Thom should have lived a peaceful life on his family farm. But when his father dies and the sheriff takes property taxes out of his sister’s maidenhood, Thom makes a fatal choice that flings him into the path of powerful allies and enemies. A friend gives him magical daggers that seem determined to follow him through life as a mercenary, royal guardsman, and prisoner of war. 
  
When Thom meets Lady Secilya he knows she’s promised to marry another man. A powerful man. But the attraction they feel for each other pits their judgment against laws of church and State. With their country facing invasion by a powerful enemy with mysterious magic, the loyalty of every man and woman counts. But as they struggle together to reconcile their love of duty with love of each other, the consequences of their passion just might overthrow a fragile peace. 
  
In the end, Thom finds his mind and heart, and his fate, still firmly rooted where he began.
