Synopsis

When NSA Deputy Director Major Steve North discovers his close friend—an Australian intelligence officer—and the man's entire family brutally murdered, he uncovers a labyrinthine Chinese plot twenty-five years in the making.

Codenamed "Bright Star," the operation goes far beyond military posturing. North finds himself tracking a stolen truck of specialized electronics in Philadelphia, a weaponized COVID-19 variant, and a network of deep-cover Chinese operatives scattered across America—all pieces in a grand deception orchestrated by President Xi's enigmatic advisor, Leong.

As North gradually connects the dots, he realizes the Chinese aren't planning a conventional invasion of Taiwan. Instead, through masterful psychological warfare and strategic pressure points—sparking civil unrest, cyber attacks, and a Korean peninsula conflict—they aim to force America to abandon Taiwan without firing a shot.

With the NSA Director herself compromised and the administration wavering, North must go rogue, assembling a desperate plan involving fake nuclear weapons and military deception that could either prevent war or trigger the very conflict he's trying to avoid.

Racing against time, North navigates a dangerous game of international chess where the stakes include Taiwan's sovereignty, America's credibility, and millions of lives hanging in the balance. His only guide: the ancient wisdom of Sun Tzu's Art of War, which teaches that the greatest victory comes from winning without fighting.

"Elizabeth Searle's WE GOT HIM is an ingeniously plotted, suspenseful novel written in blood, mother's milk, and the unintended consequence of rage. It is the story of one family's inherited flaws, harbored guilts, and obsessive desires, whether for a child, a parent, or a second chance to do the elusive right thing. Powerfully worked against the unfolding events of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing, Elizabeth Searle's taut drama of a young, pregnant stepmother and her troubled stepson is a narrative tour de force, interweaving public and private acts of terror with the redemptive, but ever–fragile, forces of love." —Melissa Pritchard

Nothing Ever Happens In Mapleton … Until It Does
A small town police procedural-cozy mystery blend. In the eleventh offering in Terry Odell’s Mapleton Mystery series, Deadly Relations brings back familiar faces and introduces new ones. (Not to mention a couple of dogs and cats!)
Gordon Hepler, Mapleton, Colorado’s Police Chief, is called away from a quiet Sunday with his wife to an emergency situation at the home he’s planning to sell. A man has chained himself to the front porch, threatening to set off an explosive.
When Gordon discovers he knows the arsonist—his brother-in-law from his previous failed marriage—he’s sent down an unexpected road to find his ex-wife, who, along with his brother-in-law, has disappeared. Does Gordon need to worry that his brother-in-law will put in another appearance to finish what he’s started?
Meanwhile, he has to find a balance between his Chief Stuff and his Cop Stuff. Is Mapleton facing a homeless problem? Then there’s the town council, the budget, the upcoming election, plus finding a way to keep his officers up to speed with all the changes in crime. Adding the thorn-in-his-side reporter who seems to want to undermine everything Gordon’s trying to do for his town, creates more headaches.

When Colleen Masters’s father, a powerful figure in the arms trade, is assassinated, her grief turns to vengeance. Determined to uncover the truth, she enlists Lloyd, her father’s trusted caretaker, to help orchestrate a ruthless game. Each assassin receives the same contract: eliminate the other two for a staggering reward. What begins as a straightforward mission quickly becomes a labyrinth of betrayal, shifting alliances, and hidden agendas. Mark relies on his military instincts, haunted by past traumas. Alistair approaches the game with precision and control, calculating every move. Vincent thrives on chaos, a volatile presence who bends the rules to his will. As the hunters become the hunted, each man must decide whom to trust and how far to go in order to survive. "The Adventure of the Dancing Men", a Sherlock Holmes story written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, is one of 13 stories in the cycle published as The Return of Sherlock Holmes in 1905. Doyle ranked "The Adventure of the Dancing Men" third in his list of his twelve favorite Holmes stories. This is one of only two Sherlock Holmes short stories where Holmes' client dies after seeking his help. The other is "The Five Orange Pips", part of The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. The original title was "The Dancing Men," when it was published as a short story in The Strand Magazine in December 1903.
The story begins when Hilton Cubitt of Ridling Thorpe Manor in Norfolk visits Sherlock Holmes and gives him a piece of paper with the following mysterious sequence of stick figures. - Cubitt explains to Holmes and Dr. Watson that he has recently married an American woman named Elsie Patrick. Before the wedding, she had asked her husband-to-be never to ask about her past, as she had had some "very disagreeable associations" in her life, although she said that there was nothing that she was personally ashamed of. Their marriage had been a happy one until the messages began to arrive, first mailed from the United States and then appearing in the garden.
