Beschreibung

News Anchor Influence explores the significant role news anchors play in shaping public opinion and influencing political and social debates. Challenging the idea of anchors as simply neutral presenters, the book argues they actively frame events, impacting how information is received and understood. For example, an anchor's perceived credibility directly correlates with their ability to sway public opinion, and their choice of words can significantly alter the perception of political figures.

The book offers insight into the evolution of the news anchor role, from its relatively unbiased origins to its current, more complex form, influenced by media consolidation and the rise of online sources.

The book progresses through a structured analysis, starting with core concepts like media framing and agenda-setting theory. Focused chapters then dissect specific aspects of the news anchor's role, such as the performance of objectivity and the cultivation of trust. A culminating chapter delves into ethical responsibilities in a polarized society, using case studies to illustrate the challenges and successes of navigating sensitive issues. This approach equips readers with the tools to critically evaluate news and understand the dynamics of media influence.

Psychopathy is a complex personality disorder characterized by a unique set of emotional, interpersonal, and behavioral traits. Individuals with psychopathy often exhibit a profound lack of empathy, manipulativeness, and an inability to form deep emotional connections. They are skilled at deception and can appear charming and charismatic, which allows them to navigate social situations with ease while hiding their true nature.
One of the most defining traits of psychopathy is emotional detachment. Psychopaths do not experience emotions in the same way that most people do. While they may understand emotions on an intellectual level, they lack the ability to genuinely feel them, particularly emotions such as guilt, remorse, or love. This emotional deficit makes them highly adept at exploiting others without any sense of moral conflict. They can feign emotions convincingly, using charm and flattery to manipulate those around them for personal gain.
Manipulativeness is another hallmark of psychopathy. Psychopaths use deception and persuasion to control others, often without their victims realizing it. They are highly strategic and will adjust their behavior based on what benefits them the most in a given situation. Because they lack empathy, they do not hesitate to lie, cheat, or deceive if it serves their interests.

Throughout human history, civilizations have stratified their citizens, often by establishing royal, priestly, executive, or warrior castes. Many who have achieved elite-level power joined their civilizations' premier organizations not through birthright or sociopolitical attainment, but rather by completing codified rites of passage that demonstrated their exceptional physical, spiritual, or psychological capabilities, and their deep commitment to their cultures.

Crucibles: History's Most Formidable Rites of Passage explores fourteen elite organizations, with a special emphasis on the onerous trials designed to cull initiates from aspirants. It analyzes the underlying commonalities of such trials, describing how they work, why people are willing to subject themselves to such rigors, and how such tests benefit or harm the organizations that require them.

Crucibles distills both positive and negative perspectives on tests and trials into actionable concepts which may be deployed in modern business, social, academic, or political spheres. In a time where there is a long-overdue focus on the ethical roles and responsibilities of cultural gatekeepers, Crucibles stands as a valuable resource for leaders and managers seeking to convert historic practices into useful, moral, and legal modern policies.

A “fascinating and informative” reassessment of the underappreciated Confederate general’s achievements and ahead-of-his-time military strategy (Midwest Book Review).   Lieutenant-General James Longstreet, commander of the First Corps of the Army of Northern Virginia, was a brilliant tactician and strategist. Prior to the Civil War there were many technological developments, of which the rifled musket and cannon, rail transport, and the telegraph were just a few. In addition, the North enjoyed a great advantage in manpower and resources. Longstreet adapted to these technological changes and the disparity between the belligerents, making recommendations on how the war should be fought.   Longstreet made a mental leap to adjust to this new type of warfare. Many others didn’t make this leap, including Lee, Jackson, Bragg, Hood, and Jefferson Davis, and Longstreet’s advice went unheeded. In contrast to many southern generals, he advocated for defensive warfare, using entrenchments and trying to maneuver the enemy to assault his position, conserving manpower, resources, and supplies. With the advent of the highly accurate and long-range rifled musket, offensive tactics became questionable and risky. This caused Longstreet to come into conflict with General Robert E. Lee at Gettysburg, and with General Bragg at Chickamauga.   Longstreet, a pragmatic and methodical general, was never given full authority over an army in the field. Had his suggestions been utilized there would have been a better outcome for the South. Many historians and biographers have misunderstood Longstreet and his motives, but this work offers a fresh perspective. It takes a new viewpoint of the Civil War and the generals who tailored their designs to pursue the war, analyzes Longstreet’s views of the generals and the tactics and strategy they employed, and examines why Longstreet proposed and urged a new type of warfare.
