Lyme disease is an infectious illness primarily caused by the bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi, which is transmitted to humans through the bite of an infected black-legged tick, commonly known as the deer tick. The disease is named after Lyme, Connecticut, where the first recognized outbreak occurred in the 1970s. Since then, Lyme disease has become the most common vector-borne disease in the United States and many parts of the world, with cases steadily increasing due to expanding tick populations and climate changes.
The bacteria responsible for Lyme disease are typically introduced into the human bloodstream when an infected tick attaches itself to the skin and begins feeding. The early signs of Lyme disease can range from mild to severe and are often mistaken for other common illnesses. The most notable symptom is a circular, red rash, often described as a "bull's-eye," which can appear at the site of the tick bite. This rash, called erythema migrans, occurs in approximately 70-80% of patients and is considered a hallmark of early Lyme disease. However, not everyone with Lyme disease develops this rash, and other flu-like symptoms such as fever, fatigue, muscle and joint aches, and headache may also appear.
If left untreated, Lyme disease can progress to more severe stages, where it may affect the joints, nervous system, and heart. In some cases, patients may experience chronic symptoms such as joint pain, neurological problems, and persistent fatigue, even after the initial infection has been treated. This stage is known as "post-treatment Lyme disease syndrome" (PTLDS), where symptoms can linger for months or even years.

BWRT is a completely personalised therapy that is customised specifically to the way your brain and mind work. The technique has a strong foundation in science and evolutionary biology and is designed to work directly in the cognitive gap between the reptilian complex responding to a trigger (such as a stressful situation) and the individual becoming aware of what's happening. This enables the individual to overwrite whatever problem they're experiencing with new information and in this book Terence Watts details the steps of the procedures to help you achieve this outcome.
You'll discover the 'how and why' of the technique's efficiency and, after an experiential exercise to whet your appetite, Terence then presents the procedures to help you tackle a range of different challenges, including:
Preparing to get the very best out of the major changes you're going to make.
Boosting your self-worth what you've been taught about yourself shapes what you think about yourself but a lot of it is fake news!
Understanding anxiety in all its different forms, why we have it and why we just don't need it most of the time.
Dealing with the simple phobia even when it seems far from simple, and getting rid of it for good.
Performance enhancement harnessing the resources you thought you had but weren't sure how to find.
BrainWorking Recursive Therapy (BWRT) is a registered trademark of Terence Watts.

Higher Admissions - The Rise and...

    Nicholas Lemann

In the 1930s, American colleges and universities began to screen applications using the SAT, a mass-administered, IQ-descended standardized test. The widespread adoption of the test accompanied the development of the world's first mass higher education system—and served to promote the idea that the United States was becoming a "meritocracy." In Higher Admissions, Nicholas Lemann reflects on the state of America's aspirational meritocracy and the enduring value and meaning of standardized testing.

Lemann writes that the anticipation of the Supreme Court's 2023 decision banning affirmative action, plus the Covid pandemic, led hundreds of universities to stop requiring standardized admissions tests; now a handful of elite universities are reinstituting test requirements. The country is preoccupied with the admissions policies of the most selective universities, but Lemann redirects our attention to an alternate path that American higher education can still take—one that emphasizes a significant upgrade of the entire higher education system. Lemann argues that to improve the state of higher education overall, we should focus not on the narrow chokepoint of admission to highly selective colleges, but on efforts to create as much meaningful opportunity for flourishing in our vast higher education system for as many people as possible.
