Synopsis

One of the leading poets of the First World War, Siegfried Sassoon is best remembered for his angry and compassionate poems, winning him public and critical acclaim. His vivid depictions of the trenches helped expose the stark realities of the front lines, challenging the romanticised notions of heroism that were prevalent at the time. Sassoon was also an accomplished writer of fictionalised autobiographies, which were celebrated for their evocation of English country life and modernist technique. Today, Sassoon’s work remains relevant due to its unflinching portrayal of the psychological and physical demands of war, offering a timeless portrait of the enduring cost of the Great War on both individuals and society at large. The Delphi Poets Series offers readers the works of literature’s finest poets, with superior formatting. This eBook presents Sassoon’s collected works, with rare texts, illustrations and the usual Delphi bonus material. (Version 1)

Enjoy the beauty of the changing seasons from a new perspective with this stunning collection of poetry! This poetry collection is, indeed, about seeing God in everything. Throughout this book, the nature of the changing seasons is observed through the eyes of the poet and her relationship with God. Enjoy the tranquility of ‘Waterlilies’, the hustle and bustle of ‘Christmas markets’ and the fleetingness of ‘Time’, amongst other seasonal-based poems. Take the time to see nature from a different perspective, as the author takes time out of her life to comment on the world around her.

I wrote most of these poems while the memories of a woman from my past scraped at my mind.
I've learned to accept that life is about overcoming desire and finding peace in not getting what you want, but I'm only human, which means sometimes I enjoy entertaining an erotic, morbid, desperate, and painfully hopeful side of me when the mood strikes.
My bottom line is this: if you've ever loved someone too much, or missed someone you couldn't forget, this modest collection of words and ideas might feel familiar.

Considered the greatest baseball poem of all time, "Casey at the Bat" is the beloved tale of the Mudville Nine, a hapless baseball club entering the ninth inning of a ballgame down two runs and with little hope of succeeding...unless their star slugger Casey can manage to get a turn at the plate. With two outs, the outlook is grim but...when the two players preceding Casey manage to get on base, the stage is set for a grand finale, giving the citizens of Mudville hope that their hero can save the day! Ernest Lawrence Thayer originally wrote this poem for the San Francisco Examiner and it would go on to become what Baseball Almanac called "the single most famous baseball poem ever written." It is here presented in its original and unabridged form and enhanced with music and sound effects to bring the listener right into the ballpark!

African American literature is the body of literature produced in the United States by writers of African descent. It begins with the works of such late 18th-century writers as Phillis Wheatley. Before the high point of enslaved people narratives, African-American literature was dominated by autobiographical spiritual narratives. The genre known as slave narratives in the 19th century were accounts by people who had generally escaped from slavery, about their journeys to freedom and ways they claimed their lives. The Harlem Renaissance of the 1920s was a great period of flowering in literature and the arts, influenced both by writers who came North in the Great Migration and those who were immigrants from Jamaica and other Caribbean islands.
