Plenty of unusual characters came to the colonies to participate in the war, with many sporting dubious titles such as the Baron de Kalb, but perhaps none arrived in a more unique way than John Paul Jones, a Scottish sailor who had plenty of experience with British ships before a controversial row on one ship compelled him to flee to the colonies in 1775. As it turned out, he was arriving in Virginia just in time for more fighting, this time against the British.
Despite his lofty sobriquet, Jones constantly found himself frustrated by people and events beyond his control during the Revolution, and it would take years before the aggressive commander could take the fight to the British. Through a murky system involving French ships, and an even murkier chain of events, Jones engaged the British in battle around the British Isles, and his aggression became the stuff of legend. While the British accused him of being a pirate, he was feted by the Americans and French during the war before joining the Russian navy after the war.
Americans had few things to celebrate during the War of 1812, and fighting on the frontier against the British and their native allies didn’t go any better than the conflict did in other theaters, but one of the only major victories the Americans won came at the Battle of Lake Erie in September 1813. That action made Oliver Hazard Perry, a veteran of the Barbary Wars and commander of the USS Lawrence, a legend whose name has endured for over 200 years. Perry was so instrumental in the victory that British historian C.S. Forester noted “it was as fortunate for the Americans that the Lawrence still possessed a boat that would float, as it was that Perry was not hit." As one of the biggest naval battles of the war, the results meant that America maintained control of Lake Erie, and for his part, Perry would forever be remembered as the “Hero of Lake Erie.”

JUPITER RISING – THE CELESTIAL CHRONICLES
    Book 3 of 6 The Nebula's Trial
This story is summarized as follows:
In The Nebula's Trial, Captain Minerva Voss leads her crew into the Horsehead Nebula, following clues from the centaur Chiron to uncover an ancient secret. They discover a cosmic junction linking Jupiter to the nebula, where the Abyssal—Europa's deep-sea civilization—reveal the truth: Jupiter's storms contain Arion, a centaur-like energy being guarding Nyx, a sentient black hole imprisoned in Jupiter's core. When the Syndicate attacks with a quantum harpoon to enslave Arion, Minerva psychically bonds with the guardian, witnessing its memories—including Earth's role in Nyx's imprisonment. Arion sacrifices itself to destroy the harpoon, transferring its knowledge to Minerva before dying. The Syndicate's cryptic message, "Project Ixion is ready," hints at their plan to free Nyx. As Jupiter's storms intensify, Minerva realizes the true scale of the threat—and her destiny as a guardian of cosmic balance.
This is the third of six audiobooks in the series and I do hope you enjoy this third instalment, and it's only $3.
I have worked very hard and meticulously to provide you with an enjoyable experience, the initial opening credit music which does run to approximately 2 1/2 minutes and prepares you for the start, synthesizer, bass and cymbals in a soul/funk form. The closing music ends the tale on a darker tone and at about 2 minutes and the same instruments, genre and industrial/fearful mood but with more caution added.
The story runs to about 15 minutes and is narrated in my own voice.
I do hope you enjoy this audiobook and let me know what you think, more to come!

WINNER OF THE YALSA AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN NONFICTION FOR YOUNG ADULTS

Here are the shocking, yet true, stories of presidential medical cover-ups from the 19th to the 21st century—the latest thrilling title in award-winning author Gail Jarrow’s Medical Fiascoes series for readers ages 10 and up.

Did you know President Woodrow Wilson suffered a paralyzing stroke that his wife and doctors concealed for months? Or that Mrs. Wilson took total charge of his presidential duties? Neither did the American public. Did you know President John F. Kennedy suffered from Addison’s disease and was heavily medicated for years? Neither did most people. Too often when a president is sick or dying, he and the people around him have hidden his condition from the public, wanting to project an image of strength and power.

In this fascinating and provocative new installment in her acclaimed Medical Fiascoes series, author Gail Jarrow explores presidential cover-ups from the 19th to the 21st century—from James Garfield to Joe Biden. White House Secrets provides the historical context to help young readers understand issues of media literacy and presidential candor that are more relevant than ever in the 21st century.

"Well researched and succinctly written, each chapter tells a different tale based on secrets kept by presidents and those who wanted to protect them. An intriguing topic explored in compelling true stories."—Booklist
