Flowering Evil by Margaret St. Clair - Like all her other plants from far-off worlds, Aunt Amy hoped the Venusian Rambler would win a prize. It hoped so too.
Captain Bjornson shook a grizzled head. “I never saw a plant I liked the looks of less,” he said. “I don't know how he got it through the planetary plant quarantine. You take my advice, Amy, and watch out for it.” He took another of the little geela nut cookies from the quaint old lucite platter, and bit into it appreciately.
Mrs. Dinsmore sniffed.  “I  don't know what you're driving at,” she said coldly, “or why you're so prejudiced against my poor little Rambler. You know perfectly well that Robert would never send me anything the least bit dangerous.”
Captain Bjornson paused with another cookie half-way to his lips and looked at her. “Wouldn’t send you anything dangerous !” he exclaimed. “Why, Amy, have you forgotten how your face was swelled up for two weeks from that tree cutting he sent you? The doctor said it was a contact poison worse than sumach, and he tried to get you to go to the hospital. What about the time that cactus from the Blue Desert went to seed, and I spent thirty-six hours picking spines out of you? What about—” Mrs. Dinsmore gave a warning sniff.
“Well, all right,” Bjornson said. “I know how fond you are of Bob, and I know you don't like me to mention his mistakes. I'll grant you he means well. So what? He's Mighty, scatter-trained, and brash. To use an expression that u as current when I was a boy, Bob is a twerp.”

A frightened young man flees across an asteroid’s razor-sharp cliffs, desperately trying to reach safety before a patrolman guns him down. But what begins as a manhunt becomes something far stranger when the killer patrolman, Jim Skeel, returns to base—carrying secrets darker than any vacuum outside the dome. Soon, a vengeful sister, a notorious pirate, and a nightmare swarm of nocturnal alien creatures collide in a deadly trap where survival depends on light, nerve, and truth. Final Victim is a tense, atmospheric journey through guilt, frontier justice, and the line between duty and obsession—without ever revealing what waits at the final moment.
Ray Bradbury and Henry Hasse—lifelong friends and early collaborators—wrote a number of remarkable stories together before Bradbury became one of the most influential voices in 20th-century speculative fiction. Their joint work blends Hasse’s hard-edged, pulp-era momentum with Bradbury’s signature humanity and emotional resonance. Bradbury would go on to create The Martian Chronicles, Fahrenheit 451, and decades of world-defining short fiction, while Hasse became known for tales of cosmic scale such as He Who Shrank.
Together they forged early space adventures that shaped the tone of modern sci-fi. Final Victim showcases the raw energy of two great talents on the rise.

“The Broken Path: Native Tribes and the Tragedy of the Trail of Tears” delves into one of the darkest chapters in American history, documenting the harrowing experiences of Southeastern Native American tribes during the forced relocations known as the Trail of Tears. This book offers a poignant exploration of the devastating consequences of U.S. government policies that sought to remove Indigenous peoples from their ancestral lands. Through the lens of selected tribes, whose fates, though varied, were marked by equal suffering, the narrative reveals the inhumane reality of manifest destiny.
This doctrine drove the relentless expansion of white settlers across the continent. Despite efforts by Native Americans to resist through legal battles and armed conflict, their struggle was tragically futile against the overwhelming forces of displacement. This powerful account underscores the enduring impact of this tragic era on the Indigenous populations of America.

    NOW A NETFLIX ORIGINAL SERIES
Everybody loves a carnival! Who can fail to delight in the colourful people, the unworldly spectacle, the fabulous freaks?
A carnival is a place for good family fun—as long as one has a family, that is. For the Baudelaire orphans, their time at the carnival turns out to be yet another episode in a now unbearable series of unfortunate events. In fact, in this appalling ninth installment in Lemony Snicket's serial, the siblings must confront a terrible lie, a caravan, and Chabo the wolf baby.
With millions of readers worldwide, and the Baudelaire's fate turning from unpleasant to unseemly, it is clear that Lemony Snicket has taken nearly all the fun out of children's books.
