Summary

In a universe where popular music is outlawed and a handful of men control everything, citizens throughout the world are forced into fake lives simply to survive. Artists are treated like rock stars, but the art does little to ease the darkness of oppression. 
  
When Mary finds herself in New York City, broke and homeless, it feels like the end. She sees a glimpse of a life she could have experienced if things had been different — if music had not been a threat to those in charge. 
  
As a best selling artist, Scarlet has the eyes of the world focused on her, but she knows this life should have been different. A different woman should be on the stage, and she should be singing to sold out crowds. She should be creating magic with her music.
