Choose the path that makes you stronger and discover resilience 2.0

Modern life offers an endless stream of comfort and convenience, but the truth is that this path is making us sicker and unhappier than ever. What if the key to optimal health isn't to avoid stress, but to harness it to make you better? Like the Greek hero Hercules at his crossroads, we face a choice: The easy path of the couch, social media, binge streaming and fast food, which leads to decline. Or the more challenging path of purposeful hardiness that builds true strength. The Hardiness Effect offers a revolutionary approach that goes beyond resilience, showing you how to harness your mind and body for a life well lived.

Dr Paul Taylor, psychophysiologist, ex-military aviator and award-winning author, reveals the practical actions that will help you move from coping to adapting. Combining ancient wisdom with cutting-edge research in exercise, nutrition, neuroscience and psychology, The Hardiness Effect will transform how you think about life. If, like Hercules, you choose to follow the harder path, you’ll find you can face life’s challenges with new determination, boost your physical and mental health, and even extend your longevity.

Master the four pillars of psychological hardiness: Discover the 4 Cs (challenge, control, commitment and connection), a framework that turns adversity into growth.

Harness hormesis to live longer and healthier: Apply the biological principle that small doses of stress make you stronger, with proven, step-by-step practices that trigger your body’s repair and anti-aging systems.

Tune your daily rhythms for peak performance: Learn how to supercharge your brain and energy through sleep hygiene, light exposure, breath work, omega-3 and Vitamin D, recovery protocols and more.

Reclaim your human nature: Combat loneliness and digital overwhelm by building meaningful relationships and reconnecting with the natural world.

Escape the comfort trap: Take back control from ultraprocessed foods, sedentary living and addictive technologies — and develop habits that create hardiness and boost wellbeing.

The Hardiness Effect shows you how to unlock your potential by building the psychological and physical toughness you need for lasting health and vitality. This science-backed, hands-on blueprint will show you how to transform challenge into strength and embrace a life of genuine purpose and fulfilment.

The ruins of ancient Athens, Luxor, and Rome are familiar cornerstones of world history, visited by travelers from across the globe. But what about the cities that have dropped off the map? Where are they, and what can they tell us about our past?

In this compendium of forgotten cities, Philip Matyszak explores the trials, tribulations, and triumphs these cities faced. Lost Cities of the Ancient World brings to life the sites and settlements across Europe, the Middle East, and beyond that time forgot, from the sunken city of Pavlopetri in the Mediterranean to the deep cave dwellings of Derinkuyu in Turkey. Four thousand years of human history are covered in this volume, offering unique insights into forgotten cities and ways of life.

Matyszak reveals a dynamic network of peoples and cultures who fought and traded between themselves, exchanging inventions, ideas, and philosophies, with the result that people as far apart as Catalhöyükin Turkey and Skara Brae in Scotland's Orkney Islands shared a common heritage. By examining the motivations that first drew populations to gather and settle together, as well as the challenges that led to their cities' abandonment, this striking and often surprising book offers us a fresh perspective on our urban origins.

The universe wakes up through you.
We see history as an unceasing flow of causality and time; an endless series of past events leading up to the present. We feel ourselves as the detached observers of it, somehow standing on the outside watching the world go by. But the truth is we’re not on the outside. We’re at the very center of it all.
Interweaving history, mythology, psychology, and mystical experience, author John Payne charts the journey of I from its Paleolithic origins through the emergence of language and literacy, forward through the worldviews of the Greeks and Hebrews, and on to the present time.
The premise of this book is that the Universe’s most sincere project is the creation of a self-reflection point called I. Climbing up out of the universe’s primordia using the rungs of matter, animal biology and cultural enterprises such as myth, religion, literacy and science, Consciousness has constricted itself to a place two inches behind your forehead.
And it has been waiting for you to wake up.

The origins of Ife are deeply rooted in mythology, oral traditions, and historical accounts, making it one of the most revered ancient cities in West Africa. Ife is often referred to as the cradle of the Yoruba civilization, a place where culture, religion, and governance took form. The story of its beginning is intertwined with Yoruba cosmology, particularly the legend of Oduduwa, who is considered the progenitor of the Yoruba people.
According to Yoruba mythology, Olodumare, the Supreme Being, entrusted Oduduwa with the sacred task of creating the earth. He descended from the heavens with a chain, a handful of earth, and a rooster. Upon reaching the watery expanse that covered the world, he spread the earth on the surface, and the rooster scattered it, forming the first landmass. This sacred land became known as Ile-Ife, meaning “The Land of Expansion.” Over time, Oduduwa and his followers established a kingdom that became the center of Yoruba civilization, laying the foundation for its political, spiritual, and artistic traditions.
Beyond mythology, historical and archaeological evidence suggests that Ife was already a flourishing city-state by the 9th century, possibly earlier. It grew as a hub of trade, attracting merchants and artisans from different parts of West Africa. Its strategic location allowed for the exchange of goods, ideas, and cultural practices, contributing to the city’s rapid development. The city’s early rulers, often referred to as the Oonis, played a crucial role in consolidating power and maintaining the harmony between religious and political institutions. The Ooni of Ife, regarded as both a king and a divine figure, acted as the intermediary between the people and the gods, reinforcing Ife’s status as a sacred city.

Mary I, typically called Mary Tudor and called "Bloody Mary" by her Protestant challengers, ruled as Queen of England and Ireland from July 1553 till November 17th, 1558. She is well recalled for her solid attempts to reverse the English Reformation, which started throughout her dad's reign, Henry VIII's reign. Her effort to return property taken at the time of the prior 2 reigns to the Church was generally blocked by Parliament, but at the time of her five-year rule, Mary had more than 280 spiritual dissenters burnt at the stake in the Marian persecutions. You might give excuses for her behavior, you might justify it by saying she may not have been much worse than other dictators and royalty around that time, but the fact of the matter is still that she murdered hundreds of people for religious and political reasons.Bloody Mary was cruel, cold, and from what we know, there was a cause for this. Let’s take a look at her life, her problems, and the way she handled them.
