  The Great Trigonometrical Survey of India began in the eighteenth century with the aim of creating a detailed map of the subcontinent. Under the leadership of George Everest—whose name was later bestowed to the world's tallest mountain—it mapped the Great Arc running from the country's southern tip to the Himalayas. Much of the work was done by Indian explorers known as Pundits. They were the first to reveal the mysteries of the forbidden city of Lhasa, and discover the true course of Tibet's mighty Tsangpo River. 
   
   
   
  These explorers performed essential information gathering for the British Empire and filled in large portions of the map of Asia. Their adventurous exploits are vividly recounted in Mapping the Great Game.

  Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory skin condition that primarily affects the face, causing persistent redness, visible blood vessels, and, in some cases, pimple-like bumps. It is a common but often misunderstood disorder that can significantly impact a person’s quality of life. While the condition is not life-threatening, its unpredictable flare-ups and visible symptoms can lead to embarrassment, self-consciousness, and emotional distress. 
  One of the most challenging aspects of rosacea is its variable nature. Symptoms may appear suddenly and worsen over time if left untreated. Many individuals experience cycles of remission and exacerbation, where the skin improves temporarily before another flare-up occurs. Rosacea typically develops in adulthood, most commonly between the ages of 30 and 50, and affects both men and women. However, men are more likely to experience severe symptoms, particularly skin thickening on the nose, a condition known as rhinophyma. 
  The exact cause of rosacea remains unclear, but research suggests it results from a combination of genetic, environmental, and immune system factors. Studies indicate that an overactive immune response, abnormalities in the skin’s blood vessels, and an increased presence of microscopic skin mites (Demodex folliculorum) may all contribute to its development. Certain triggers, such as sun exposure, spicy foods, alcohol, stress, and extreme temperatures, can exacerbate symptoms, making management crucial.

  The development of tectonophysics as a scientific discipline emerged from the broader study of geodynamics and plate tectonics. In the early 20th century, Alfred Wegener proposed the theory of continental drift, suggesting that continents were once joined in a supercontinent called Pangaea before slowly drifting apart. However, his ideas lacked a convincing mechanism. It was not until the mid-20th century that discoveries such as seafloor spreading and mantle convection provided the necessary framework for the modern theory of plate tectonics. These findings revolutionized the understanding of Earth's dynamic nature, establishing tectonophysics as a crucial field in geoscience. 
  At its core, tectonophysics investigates the forces that drive plate motions. Earth's interior consists of the solid inner core, the molten outer core, the mantle, and the brittle lithosphere. Heat from the core generates convective currents in the mantle, which exert stress on the overlying tectonic plates. These stresses lead to deformation in the lithosphere, resulting in phenomena such as faulting, folding, and crustal thickening.
