The Italian Soul is a pilgrimage of the heart, a journey toward change that will allow its readers to approach life with a more contemplative stance and recreate a sense of la dolce vita—the sweet life—wherever they might be.  The Italian Soul offers practical guidance into how we can transport a taste of the Italian “good life” into our own homes. Additionally, it explores the contemplative practices and attitudes that seem to come naturally to a people who have made an art of living and working joyfully. A cross between a travel dispatch and a spirituality guide for seekers who eschew traditional religious practices but are yearning for ways to bring more balance, sanity, and a greater sense of the transcendent into their daily lives.   Written by veteran journalist Judith Valente, who has lived and traveled extensively in Italy, The Italian Soul shares personal stories and insights into the Italian way of life, focusing on the attitudes, traditions, and practices that make the people of Italy role models for experiencing delight amid the demands and distractions of ordinary living. Readers will feel as though they are walking along, peering into windows, glimpsing activities as they unfold.  The Italian Soul is a book for lovers of Italy, those considering visiting Italy for the first time, and anyone who is interested in learning more about the art of living joyfully.  The Italian Soul will share how Italians: Have a deep appreciation for quality and aesthetics   Value slowness and savor the little moments in life Show a strong sense of community and make room for leisure and personal care Honor their dead and have a deep respect for tradition Find beauty in the everyday and are able to laugh at themselves The Italian Soul is a book that will change the way you look at life. It is a book that will inspire you to live more joyfully and to savor the simple things.

The origins of Egyptian medicine trace back to the earliest periods of ancient Egypt, where the intertwining of practical knowledge and spiritual beliefs laid the foundation for one of the most advanced medical systems of the ancient world. As early as the Pre-Dynastic period, evidence of rudimentary medical practices reveals that Egyptians were already exploring ways to treat injuries and ailments using natural resources available in their environment.
Religion played a fundamental role in shaping the practice of medicine in ancient Egypt. The Egyptians believed that the gods held power over health and illness, with many deities associated with specific aspects of healing. For instance, Sekhmet, the lioness goddess, was both a bringer of plague and a healer, while Thoth, the god of wisdom, was revered as a patron of physicians. Temples dedicated to these deities often served as centers for both worship and healing, where priests acted as both spiritual leaders and medical practitioners.
Early medical practices were closely linked to mythology, with illnesses often attributed to divine displeasure or the influence of malevolent spirits. Healing rituals and incantations were designed to restore the balance between the individual and the divine order, highlighting the Egyptian belief in a holistic approach to health. The blending of prayer, magic, and practical remedies reflects a medical philosophy that considered both the physical and spiritual dimensions of wellness.

Latin American Development offers a sweeping, multi-country perspective on the forces shaping growth, prosperity, and crisis across the region. This 5-in-1 collection dives into the economic trajectories of El Salvador, Colombia, Brazil, and Venezuela, highlighting how political decisions, social movements, and external pressures have molded each nation’s path. Whether examining rapid development or dramatic decline, the book sheds light on both shared patterns and unique challenges.
In El Salvador, we explore the post-conflict economy and its reliance on remittances, exports, and dollarization. Colombia’s chapters focus on two lenses: its long-term economic history and more recent transformation toward stability and global integration. Brazil’s rise and fall showcases how major industries once symbolized growth, only to falter amid corruption and policy missteps. Finally, Venezuela’s boom and bust narrative reveals how oil wealth led to short-term prosperity followed by severe collapse, hyperinflation, and social unrest.
This volume is perfect for readers seeking to understand how Latin America’s economic landscapes have been built—and broken—by power, policy, and persistence.

    CURIOUS FACT SAMPLES:

Dexter's Laboratory was created by Genndy Tartakovsky for Cartoon Network and it follows the adventures of Dexter, a boy genius with a secret laboratory hidden in his bedroom. The series was the first original series for the channel under the "Cartoon Cartoons" moniker.

The show features Dexter's ongoing conflict with his older sister Dee Dee, who frequently disrupts his experiments, and Mandark, a rival genius who seeks to undermine Dexter's work. Despite being a genius, Dexter often fails due to his overexcitement and carelessness.

The series was initially based on student films that Tartakovsky produced at the California Institute of the Arts. Four pilot episodes aired on Cartoon Network and TNT from 1995 to 1996 before the show was picked up as a series.
