Sinossi

The Tale of Sinuhe, also called the Story of Sanhat, is one of the most popular stories that has survived to the present from the Egyptian Middle Kingdom. Dozens of fragments of copies have been found, which is unusual and speaks volumes of how popular it was in the Middle Kingdom. Egyptologists are divided on how much of it is fictional, with some claiming it is a historical text, while others claim it is entirely fictional. The copies that have been found are not identical, with sections of text that were either added to the original, or dropped from the original, and therefore it was altered over time. As a result, the general view within Egyptology is that it likely started as a historical text that was embellished by later scribes.Unfortunately, the original author either did not see a reason to explain what had happened before Sinuhe’s flight from Egypt, or it was removed from the copies that have survived to the present. Sinuhe makes a point of claiming that he was not deserting the army in Libya, but later the king states that he knows that Sinuhe was not plotting against him when he fled Egypt. This suggests that someone had conspired against Senusret I at the beginning of his reign, however, the events of this plot have not survived to the present. It isn’t clear if the details were removed out of respect for the king, or if the author simply expected everyone to know what had happened. The identity of Sinuhe is also somewhat unclear from the surviving texts, however, he appears to be a relative of the Queen, who had grown up with the future king Senusret I. He may have been the army commander sent to conquer the Libyans at the end of Amenemhat I’s reign, as he begins his story there, however, he could have simply been a lieutenant. As a member of the nobility, he was unlikely to be a common soldier. Later, in Syria, he claims to be a great hero, defeating many enemies on behalf of the local king, suggesting he was well trained in combat.

The Middle East today is characterized by an astonishingly bloody civil war in Syria, a highly racialized and militarized approach to the concept of a Jewish state in Israel and the Palestinian territories, an Iraqi state paralyzed by the emergence of class- and region-inflected sectarian identifications, a Lebanon teetering on the edge of collapse from the pressures of its huge numbers of refugees and its sect-bound political system, and the rise of a wide variety of Islamist paramilitary organizations seeking to operate outside all these states.

The region's emergence as a "zone of violence," characterized by a viciously dystopian politics of identity, is a relatively recent phenomenon, developing only over the past century; but despite these shallow historical roots, the mass violence and dispossession now characterizing Syria, Lebanon, Israel/Palestine, and Iraq have emerged as some of the twenty-first century's most intractable problems. In this study, Laura Robson uses a framework of mass violence—encompassing the concepts of genocide, ethnic cleansing, forced migration, appropriation of resources, mass deportation, and forcible denationalization—to explain the emergence of a dystopian politics of identity across the Eastern Mediterranean in the modern era and to illuminate the contemporary breakdown of the state from Syria to Iraq to Israel.

Person-Centered Therapy (PCT), also known as Client-Centered Therapy, was developed by Carl Rogers in the mid-20th century. It is one of the most influential and humanistic approaches to psychotherapy, focusing on the intrinsic potential for growth within each individual. At its core, PCT is rooted in the belief that every person has the capacity for self-understanding and self-direction, given the right environment. The therapeutic relationship is not one of authority or expertise; instead, it is based on mutual respect and understanding. This approach emphasizes the client's subjective experience as the most important aspect of therapy, with the therapist acting as a facilitator of the client's self-exploration and personal growth.
Carl Rogers was a pioneering figure in the field of psychology, advocating for a shift away from the more directive methods that were common at the time. His emphasis on empathy, genuineness, and unconditional positive regard—three foundational components of PCT—marks a departure from the idea that therapists should control the process of healing. Instead, Rogers proposed that when individuals feel truly heard, understood, and accepted by another person, they are able to engage in meaningful self-exploration that leads to change. This trust in the client’s own ability to navigate their struggles forms the bedrock of Person-Centered Therapy.
The essence of Person-Centered Therapy lies in the relationship between the client and therapist. Rather than focusing on diagnosing and treating specific problems, the therapy process is more holistic. It invites clients to explore their feelings, experiences, and sense of self in a supportive and nonjudgmental space.

GENDER EUPHORIA: a powerful feeling of happiness experienced as a result of moving away from one's birth-assigned gender. So often the stories shared by trans people about their transition center on gender dysphoria: a feeling of deep discomfort with their birth-assigned gender, and a powerful catalyst for coming out or transitioning. But for many non-cisgender people, it's gender euphoria that pushes forward their transition: the joy the first time a parent calls them by their new chosen name, the first time they have the confidence to cut their hair short, the first time they truly embrace themself.

In this groundbreaking anthology, nineteen trans, non-binary, agender, gender-fluid, and intersex writers share their experiences of gender euphoria: an agender dominatrix being called "Daddy," an Arab trans man getting his first tattoos, a trans woman embracing her inner fighter. What they have in common are their feelings of elation, pride, confidence, freedom and ecstasy as a direct result of coming out as non-cisgender, and how coming to terms with their gender has brought unimaginable joy into their lives.

Physical therapy is a healthcare profession dedicated to improving movement, restoring function, and alleviating pain in individuals affected by injury, illness, or disability. It plays a crucial role in rehabilitation, preventing further complications, and enhancing overall quality of life. By employing evidence-based techniques, physical therapists help patients regain mobility, reduce discomfort, and achieve optimal physical health.
The origins of physical therapy can be traced back to ancient civilizations, where massage and exercise were used for healing. However, modern physical therapy emerged during the early 20th century, particularly in response to the need for rehabilitating soldiers injured in World War I. Since then, the field has evolved significantly, incorporating advanced scientific principles, innovative treatment modalities, and a multidisciplinary approach to patient care.
A physical therapist is a highly trained healthcare professional specializing in diagnosing and treating movement disorders. Their role extends beyond rehabilitation, encompassing injury prevention, pain management, and patient education. Physical therapists work in diverse settings, including hospitals, private clinics, sports facilities, rehabilitation centers, and home healthcare services. They collaborate with physicians, occupational therapists, and other healthcare professionals to develop comprehensive treatment plans tailored to individual patient needs.
