Synopsis

In "Christabel" and "Kubla Khan: A Vision in a Dream," Samuel Taylor Coleridge intricately weaves themes of fantasy, the supernatural, and the exploration of the human psyche. Characterized by its lush imagery and lyrical quality, the collections showcase Coleridge's profound engagement with Romanticism, seeking to evoke emotion through vivid and surreal landscapes. "Christabel" intricately delves into the dichotomy of innocence and seduction, while "Kubla Khan" presents a dreamlike vision of an opulent and enigmatic ruler, reflecting the interplay between creativity and the subconscious mind amidst the backdrop of opium-induced inspiration. Together, these poems encapsulate Coleridge's artistry and philosophical inquiries into the nature of existence and experience. Samuel Taylor Coleridge, one of the central figures of the Romantic movement, was greatly influenced by his own tumultuous life experiences, including struggles with addiction and a deep-seated sense of spirituality. His intellectual partnership with contemporaries such as William Wordsworth and his quest for artistic authenticity motivated him to explore the boundaries of perception through poetic forms. Coleridge'Äôs own mystical experiences often informed his writing, enabling him to craft works that evoke wonder and contemplation in readers. "Christabel & Kubla Khan" invites readers to traverse the depths of Coleridge's imaginative landscapes and psychological intricacies, making it an essential study for those interested in Romantic literature and the exploration of the human condition. This collection not only showcases the beauty of Coleridge's language but also reveals the timeless truths and mysteries of life that continue to resonate with readers today.

Bitter Punch is Loh Guan Liang’s second collection of poetry. With a wry eye for the everyday and its often forgotten characters, Loh explores what it means to live and love in the city. Even as it depicts the tension between ourselves and the spaces we inhabit, Bitter Punch still seeks sweetness in life’s hard, bitter moments.

"At the heart of Bitter Punch is the passing of love. Loh Guan Liang has constructed a personal map of elegiac half-escapes although his book is also a love letter to the enigmatic city that has been sustaining him. These poems will haunt you with its cool detachment, its overthinking, and its sombre rhythm in search of connection through words."

The sun has descended below the far horizon. The inky blackness of night begins to envelop the land. Day has gone and the nocturnal times reveal themselves. But above the dark blanket the moon, whether waxing or waning, stands sentry and around it vast clouds and swirls of stars regiment themselves. We look up in awe and wonder, frail beneath their vista.

Riders to the Sea: A mother and her daughters are dealing with a familial curse that seems to cause all of the men in the family to die. Anxieties come to a peak when the last, remaining son is getting ready to ride out to sea in order to try and provide for his family.
Shadow of the Glen: A contemplative Drama in One Act about how a women's integrity can be unjustly scrutinized through hearsay and speculation, and how forcing those opinions out into the open can have disastrous consequences for everyone involved.
The Tinker's Wedding: A story of two young tinkers trying to con a travelling holy man into marrying them, all while their mother is constantly trying to satiate her indomitable thirst for drink, thereby inadvertently causing more problems than the drink is worth. Blaming, miscommunication, and utter tomfoolery ensues, leading to the final culmination of each party getting ready to pounce on each other's necks and outrageously strangle each other Saturday-morning-cartoon style.
The Well of the Saints: A blind couple regains their sight only to realize they hate the look of one another. Hilarity and pigheadedness ensues.
Deirdre, a woman of immeasurable beauty, is betrothed/condemned to the King of Ulster, Conchubar. But in true mythological fashion, there is a prophecy which prevents this--. Loyalty, familial ties, and unadulterated love will be strained and broken, with only one question remaining: Who will be left to admire the beauty and sorrow of life?
Playboy of the Western World: A young traveler has come from out of town boasting that he's committed patricide, which, rather than ostracizing him, causes many women of the town to become morbidly curious about this young man, including the prettiest girl in town and the quite newly vivacious widow. But what happens when the supposedly dead father shows up in town to whoop his son into submission?

This 1 hour, 3 actor, 3 scene comedy is meant to be enjoyed with friends around the dinner table after a good meal and plenty of libations.
The premise: The two main characters, Albert and Larry, are 80 year-old twins who have been picking at each other all their lives. They share an apartment, have just purchased a new TV, and are having some difficulty getting it to work. Sounds simple, but things go downhill fast from there and eventually off the cliff when the landlord arrives. The play has a lot of quick back-and-forth dialog so it reads like a comedy routine. It can be performed sitting around the table if someone is reading the stage directions. Actual age of actors is not important.
Minimum props required: TV remote, cell phone, two pieces of paper with Awww! and Clap! written on them, two foldout brochures of any kind to function as TV Quick Start Guide and headphone guide. The rest can be mimed.
If your plan is to perform it onstage, go for it. You have my blessing as long as you credit the work. Posting a review with a pic of the production would be possibly hilarious, but definitely cool.
Reviews: The Lansdowne Times might call Remotely Annoying the funniest thing since sliced bread, but nobody thinks sliced bread is funny and there is no Lansdowne Times. However, this play has been fully tested and approved by 8 brave souls who, shall they rest in peace, died laughing.
