  Caterina Travels to Italy is a collection of dialogues that tell the story of a fictional Italian-American woman as she travels to Italy and then spends time there with Italian relatives. The story is a part of the Conversational Italian for Travelers series of books that was created for the beginning Italian student who wants to learn, “all the Italian you need to enjoy your trip to Italy!” 
  Each chapter in Caterina Travels to Italy begins with a brief introduction that summarizes the action to be played out, introduces the characters in the dialogue, and emphasizes important Italian grammar points. We follow the main character Caterina as she journeys to Italy, meets her relatives and their friends, and spends some vacation time at the beach. These dialogues focus on taking public transportation, as well as going to a party, meeting that special someone, making reservations, and eating out in a restaurant. 
  There are two ways to listen to Caterina Travels to Italy, which has been recorded with native Italian speakers and an Italian-American for the role of Caterina. The Italian-only audio for the complete 18 chapters of Caterina Travels to Italy is presented first, and is found on Tracks 3-20. The chapters are then repeated to include the English translation for each line, with Italian first and the English translation to follow. Listen to the chapter in Italian and then check your comprehension with the Italian-English chapter!

  In her latest book, In Praise of Listening, Christian McEwen reflects on listening (silence, music, nature, prayer) in a series of thoughtful chapters, each one focused on a different theme. When an athlete speaks of "listening to his body," or a gardener describes herself as "listening to the land," when writers and artists explain that they are "listening" to their work-in-progress, they are using the word as she chooses to use it here—as an extended metaphor for openness and receptivity, rippling out from the self-centered human to the farthest reaches of the non-human world. 
   
   
   
  In Praise of Listening is a kind of sister or first cousin to McEwen's earlier, timely, and very popular, World Enough & Time, with the same emphasis on creativity and slowing down. As McEwen says: Most of us think of listening in fairly literal fashion: human beings listening (or not listening) to one another; the pleasure of attending to a familiar piece of music. But listening can have a far broader and more capacious meaning, moving out beyond the small apparatus of the ears to the hands or belly or enveloping spirit/mind.

After building one fire and leaving it to venture on in his journey he later on attempts to build another but fails. He slips into unconsciousness and dies of hypothermia...Edgar Allan Poe. The pit and the pendulum."The Pit and the Pendulum" is a short story written by Edgar Allan Poe and first published in 1842 in the literary annual The Gift: A Christmas and New Year's Present for 1843. The story is about the torments endured by a prisoner of the Spanish Inquisition, though Poe skews historical facts. The narrator of the story describes his experience of being tortured. The story is especially effective at inspiring fear in the reader because of its heavy focus on the senses, such as sound, emphasizing its reality, unlike many of Poe's stories which are aided by the supernatural.
