Synopsis

This is not a book of lessons. It is an inventory of the mundane, a catalogue of the forgotten corners of a life told through the objects that witnessed it. A heavy cast-iron skillet, a faded gray t-shirt, a chipped blue mug—each holds a history, a geology of dinners past, of quiet moments, and of conversations left unfinished.

Through a series of quiet, intimate reflections, this collection explores the weight and meaning of the things we accumulate. It is a search for the profound in the ordinary, a meditation on how our lives are written not in grand narratives, but in the scuffs on a pair of boots, the water stain on a ceiling, and the constant, quiet hum of a house. This is an invitation to listen to the stories our own everyday things have to tell, to find the extraordinary in the texture of a life lived. It is a book to be read in the moments between—while waiting for the kettle to boil, or late at night when the world has gone silent.

I had been alone before, surrounded by the abyss's darkness and demons' red eyes. The void had seemed endless, with no hope of escape or salvation from the horrors that awaited me. But now, I stood firm, determined never to let anyone conquer my mind again. The more they tried to put me down, the more I pushed back with all my strength, showing them who I was and what I could achieve. And I would succeed- oh yes, I would succeed- so they could never forget who I was and what I had accomplished. The sound of distant screams echoed in my ears as I raised my head high, ready to face whatever lay ahead. I was the magic they wanted, but because I didn't submit to their way of control, they started working against me. So I reached deep inside myself and found something I did not understand, a force-like power that made my fists clench involuntarily and turn away the glances of those who would get close to me. They had never seen anything like it in anyone else before.
Based on true events and compiled from the author's life, from the beginnings of teenage life through the struggles with drugs, relationships, and victories of adulthood to funny little snippets and some outrageous stories and encounters. He takes you through this journey from a young age, living in a small town in Denmark, being stuck with no way out, and to his start on a new chapter, moving to the UK with only the clothes on his back, making it through as a chef and gardener, meeting some incredible and many times unsavory characters on the way, turning his life around only to get kicked down again and again, fighting back. Until he met his wife-to-be, emigrated to Australia, and then the battles to come. Starting all over again, with no friends or family around, the darkest clouds, they are only coming closer to the real struggles they had just begun, alone in the land down under.

This is small part of introduction of the book: Welcome, dear reader, to a journey through the annals of time, where the threads of history weave together to reveal the remarkable tale of Emperor Yao. As we embark on this adventure, we shall traverse the vast landscapes of ancient China, unearthing the legacy of a man who stands as one of the Three Sovereigns and Five Emperors, a luminary figure whose virtues illuminated an era long past. Imagine, if you will, the distant mists of antiquity, when empires were yet to be forged, and civilizations were in their tender infancy. In this age of wonder and discovery, Emperor Yao emerged, leaving an indelible mark upon the tapestry of humanity. Our journey commences by peering through the mists of time, into the heart of ancient China. This storied land, replete with emerald valleys and winding rivers, was a cradle of culture, innovation, and aspirations. Here, amidst the rustling leaves and flowing waters, Emperor Yao's story unfurls.

The world's first auto-song-ography! Linn Lorkin sat at a piano so that she could read her memoir playing and singing as she went. The result is an audiobook that will make you laugh and cry ... and tap your feet. It’s the fabulously entertaining tale of a farm-girl from New Zealand, a country with no show-business culture whatsoever (at the time), who forges her own path and ends up playing and singing in some of the glittering capitals of the world. A colourful, funny, at times almost unbelievable, story – witness her first professional gig singing for prostitutes and sailors in Copenhagen and her stint in a dire Naples prison – is brought to life by this born performer’s own voice and snippets of her own songs. Prepare to fall in love with Linn Lorkin, her story and her music.

Their daughter, Blake, was born in September 2022, but their happily-ever-after has not been without its troubles.
Now Brian and Arthur detail their crazy journeys and the sliding-doors moments that brought them together to create a family of their own. Following Arthur's journey to escape war-torn Armenia and Brian's path to self-acceptance after being catapulted into the spotlight as a young gay man in the early noughties, and the sudden death of his mother, this is a story of the pain that life can sometimes bring, but ultimately it is a story about love in all its many magical forms.
From births to marriages to deaths, and everything in between, this heartfelt memoir brings Arthur and Brian's positive and inspiring attitude to the page.

The hilarious tell-all memoir by the first winner of RuPaul's Drag Race Down Under

Hailing from a sleepy eastern suburb of Auckland, Nick Nash grew up feeling like he stood out for all the wrong reasons. It wasn't until he experimented with the art of drag that he found freedom in his fierce and confident alter-ego, Kita Mean. From wild nights partying like there was no tomorrow, to scrounging together delightfully camp costumes on a shoestring budget, buying an iconic cabaret bar with bestie Anita Wigl'it, and competing on the global stage alongside Kiwi and Aussie drag legends in the first season of RuPaul's Drag Race Down Under, Kita shares behind-the-scenes goss and important life lessons - many learned the hard way - about fighting your demons and being proud of your most authentic self.
Bursting with outrageous style and cheek, Life in Lashes is a memoir of a lost boy who found salvation as a drag queen, learned to love herself, and went on to share her fabulousness with the world.
