Synopsis

In the midst of the crush of a lifetime, Milly Dupont finds herself entangled in a murder mystery. Quiet little Milly that runs the quiet little tea shop across from the corner shop discovers that the shop owner has been possibly kidnapped, maybe even murdered. But where’s Davina’s body? With the help of Edgar, her ever observant cat and companion, Milly starts to put together clues that may lead to Davina, or to her killer. Wanting only to find out the truth about what happened to Davina, her friend and surrogate mother, Milly sets out to find the truth. But can she get to the truth before the assailant gets to her? Coping with a snarky detective, few clues, and trying to run her business, Milly may be in over her head. Through persistence and a need to know what happened to Davina, Milly starts to find clues but is the suspect Davina’s boyfriend; Callum, Davina’s shop helper and Milly’s crush; or the unknown boyfriend Milly had only just found out about? With a cast of suspects to choose from Milly isn’t sure who to look at first but she has to find the real suspect before they find her, that’s the one thing she does know.

It doesn't take a clue-sniffing Golden Retriever's sense of smell to know something is up.
Semi-reformed computer hacker Steve Levitan’s long-time girlfriend, Lili, is acting out of character, and he's eager to figure out why and how he can help her. But that gets delayed when he and his golden retriever Rochester are asked to help investigate a double homicide in a posh neighborhood of Stewart's Crossing.
Boris and Natalya Krimsky were both murdered in their mansion, and Steve's early forays into their personal data reveals many suspects. A fellow physicist Boris may have cheated out of millions and cousins betrayed by the American dream the Krimskys facilitated. Natalie Sinclair has dedicated her life to animal rescue. From lost dogs and cats to lab rabbits and pigs, Nat and her team of volunteers at All Creatures Great and Small will do almost anything to keep animals out of harm's way. When a freak accident results in the death of her beloved horse, and the man responsible ends up murdered, Nat is a natural suspect. Worse, she has caught the attention of the dead man's brother, whose wealth and unsavory connections run deep, including a link to a dangerous ring of criminals trafficking in wild animals.

Suddenly, Nat's problems are much greater than breaking up lab tests on animals or finding her own missing dog. To clear her name, she's going to have to take risks she's never taken before and confront people she'd much rather avoid—including those closest to her. As her professional and personal life crumbles around her, and the stakes surrounding the murder become more and more dangerous, Nat will have to act with extreme daring or else she, not the animals, will be the one in need of rescue.
