Summary

Barely four months after the end of the First World War, with Europe in chaos and exhausted from years of conflict, Rudolf Steiner offered these lectures of hope and renewal. Despite continuing social troubles around the world, he knew that human beings had an opportunity to organize society in a new way. Steiner responded to this prospect by giving suggestions for creating innovative social structures that are in harmony with people's inner needs.
Humanity as a whole is now facing a great challenge in that it is 'crossing the threshold' to the spiritual world, says Steiner. This means that an evolutionary separation is taking place within the human soul between thinking, feeling and will. For this to happen in a healthy way, the outer make-up of society should mirror and support our internal evolution. Steiner points to the urgent need for 'threefolding' – a separation between the workings of culture, economics and politics. This is a subconscious demand, he asserts – not for thinking up cranky ideas within a sect, but for shedding light on what is needed universally!
These important lectures cover numerous themes, including the overcoming of class distinctions, the administration of money, technology and capitalism, the antisocial tendency of nationalism, and the future management of international relations.

People today encounter a dizzying array of religious options. We might consider mystical faiths like Buddhism and Hinduism, historical religions like Islam and Mormonism, or more nebulous modern expressions of being spiritual but not religious or religious but not spiritual. How do we know what is true? Is one faith just as good as another?
Trial lawyer Mark Lanier presents the claims made by the world's great religions, discusses their histories, and cross-examines their witnesses (their scriptures and traditions) to determine whether their claims are worthy of belief. With his keen legal mind and methodical style, he provides a careful comparative study, highlighting key truths he finds in each religion even as he offers critiques. Treating each perspective on its own terms and weighing the worldviews for consistency and livability, Lanier assesses evidence for and against belief systems with criteria for what constitutes sufficient proof.
Believers and unbelievers alike will find here perceptive insights into how we can make sense of competing religious claims and what difference it makes for our own lives.

Some Christians think Paul's reference to "saved through childbearing" in 1 Timothy 2:15 means that women are slated primarily for delivering and raising children. Alternate readings, however, sometimes fail to build on the best historical and textual evidence.

Sandra Glahn thinks that we have misunderstood Paul by misunderstanding the context to which he wrote. A key to reading and applying 1 Timothy, Glahn argues, lies in getting to know a mysterious figure who haunts the letter: the goddess Artemis.

Based on groundbreaking research, Nobody's Mother demonstrates how better background information supports faithful interpretation. Combining spiritual autobiography with scholarly exploration, Glahn takes listeners on a journey to ancient Ephesus and across early church history. Unveiling the cult of Artemis and how early Christians related to it can give us a clearer sense of the type of radical, countercultural fellowship the New Testament writers intended Christ's church to be.

God has called Christians to be prepared to defend their hope in Christ, but what’s the best method for making this defense? In this book, five expert apologists set out together to determine which approach to apologetics is the most faithful to Scripture and the most useful in a secular age. In this fast-paced and thorough exploration, enjoy learning:Solid, scriptural defenses for the use of apologeticsFive different approaches to apologetics (and how to employ them)And much moreUnderstanding Apologetics presents in counterpoint form five popular approaches to the defense of the Christian faith that have developed throughout history—from the early days of Christianity through to our practices today.Apologetics philosophies explored here include:Cultural ApologeticsPresuppositional ApologeticsEvidential ApologeticsClassical ApologeticsEcclesial ApologeticsAbout the Contributors:These defenses are much more than academic. Each contributor is a scholar who also practices apologetics daily. The result is a thorough yet fast-paced and practical guide to defending your faith.Melissa Cain Travis (PhD, Faulkner University) argues that classical apologetics is still vital and relevant today.Sean McDowell (PhD, The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary) contends that evidential apologetics is better suited than other methods when it comes to answering people’s doubts about the Christian faith.James N. Anderson (PhD, University of Edinburgh) focuses on epistemology and makes the case for presuppositional apologetics.D. A. Horton (PhD, Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary) suggests the other perspectives are incomplete until they include cultural apologetics.Timothy Paul Jones (PhD, The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary) retrieves the apologetics methods of the early church and recontextualizes these ancient arguments to meet the challenges of a secular age.

In his debut book, viral content creator Ryan Miller brings a mix of nuanced insight and sledgehammer biblical truth as he reveals the lost Christian virtue that will radically change your life and how you follow Jesus.Meekness. It’s a word that we think of as timid, quiet, or weak―someone who shies away from battle. But we have it all wrong. Meekness is like the wild mustang―powerful and strong, capable of striking fear into its challengers, but made gentle by the power of the Holy Spirit. It’s a character quality that exhibits strength under control and is submitted to the will of Jesus. And it’s essential in discovering your own God-given purpose. In Meek as a Mustang, Ryan Miller turns a concept you thought you knew upside down and shows how the world is starving for a countercultural, biblical message. A life marked by meekness is:risk-taking, bold, adventurous, and all-in enough to answer the call of discipleshipfully trusting in God as leader, ready to be in tune with even the slightest nudge of the reinsa redemption story, as Jesus tames the wild mustang into the warhorse and molds the seemingly irredeemable into someone purposeful for his kingdomIf you want to find rest for your restless soul, and transformational purpose for the ways God created you, you’ll find it right where Jesus promises it: his heart of meekness.
