Synopsis

Roger Evans has been an articulate dairy and poultry farmer all his life. From his Shropshire farm, he writes his diary in a well-informed, realistic and funny way, covering all aspects of his life as a farmer today.
In this book Roger talks about ratting, a particular cheeky robin, Gomer's latest weight problem and the challenges of being a dairy farmer during a national crisis.
But in the countryside the good things still prevail: the local pub, the burgeoning hedgerows, tenacious wildlife, ingenious farm dogs and let's not forget Roger's plastic swans.

The fundamentals of electrical power distribution are applied to various distribution system layouts and the function of common distribution system substations and equipment. The book introduces the design procedures and protection methods for power distribution systems of consumer installations. Circuit simulation and practical laboratories are utilised to reinforce concepts.

The book is divided to different learning outcomes

    • CLO 1- Discuss the fundamental concepts related to electrical distribution systems.
    • CLO 2- Explain the role of distribution substations and related equipment.

    • CLO 3- Outline standard methods for power distribution to consumer installations.

    • CLO 4- Apply short-circuit and over-load protection principles for electrical installations

    a) CLO1- Discuss the fundamental concepts related to electrical distribution systems.

    • Principle of operation of transformers.
    • Explain the role of the distribution system in a power system, common distribution system layouts, and common voltages, voltage drops and regulation levels from transmission to distribution.

    • Discuss demand, power quality issues, calculate factors affecting design, and interpret the load curve profile for load demand.

    • Explain how tariff is calculated and charged consumers

    b) CLO2- Explain the role of distribution substations and related equipment.

    • Explain the function of the distribution substation in view of distribution system layout

    • Explain the use of transmission, grid, primary and distribution substations a power system.
    • Explain the use of various types of bus-bar configurations in distribution substations.

    • Discuss the use of cabling, transformers, circuit breakers, switches, reclosers, and sectionalisers in a distribution system.

    c) CLO3- Outline standard methods for power distribution to consumer installations.

As a teenager in the 1990s, Katie Brown was one of climbing's first "comp kids"—a young natural who, along with her peers, redefined the image of a strong and successful climber. After climbing for less than two years, Brown won her first junior national title. The next year she became the Junior World Champion at age fourteen in Laval, France. In 1996 she won both the Rock Master—a prestigious international contest in Arco, Italy—and the esteemed X-Games. From 1996 on, Brown won every US Adult National that she entered, as well as a World Cup Title in France in 1999.Yet even as she reigned on the podium, Brown felt her life begin to unravel. A quiet child, she struggled with a home life that was very different behind closed doors than it seemed on television. A fundamentalist version of Christianity was at the center of the household, and Brown fought to live according to rules that were strict, ever-changing, and irrational. Isolated and feeling hopeless, Brown latched onto food as something she could control. She quit competitive climbing and bounced in and out of the industry, eventually disappearing in her late twenties. Now, more than two decades later, Brown is ready to share her story. Unraveled answers the question thousands of fans worldwide have wondered: "What ever happened to Katie Brown?"

    Majestic 12: The History and...

When people think about unidentified flying objects (UFOs), they tend to think of flying discs piloted by gray beings with large heads and enormous eyes. They tend to think that these sightings only started relatively recently and that belief in UFOs is some sort of modern religion brought on, perhaps, by the very justifiable fears of a nuclear age. But a study of the phenomenon quickly reveals that people have been seeing UFOs since the beginning of recorded history and perhaps a lot longer than that.
Naturally, as technological advances and the creation of flying aircraft became realities, the sighting of UFOs increased, as did the interest in potential contact with aliens.  Some of the American investigations of UFOs from the 1940s and 1950s were documented, but nothing exemplifies the debate between those who believe that extraterrestrials visit the Earth and skeptics than the top secret papers that emerged in the 1980s and seemed to prove the existence of a shadowy secret organization known as MJ-12 or Majestic 12. To believers, these papers proved beyond a doubt not only that UFOs were real and of extraterrestrial origin, but also that the federal government had been aware of this since the 1940s and had even managed to recover one or more crashed alien spacecrafts. To skeptics, this notion simply proved how gullible UFO believers were. There was no middle ground - people either believed in the MJ-12 papers completely or laughed at them.
Decades later, it’s finally possible to take a more balanced view of the history of the MJ-12 papers, including where these documents originated from and who created them. It now seems virtually certain that there never was an organization called Majestic 12 and that the papers describing it were faked, but what makes the story truly fascinating is that it now also appears likely that these papers were faked by people actually working within the Air Force or another government agency.
