Beschreibung

A “deftly written and absorbing” look at how films reflect concepts in criminology and affect our perceptions of criminal behavior (Richard Rosenfeld, coauthor of Crime and the American Dream). From Psycho to Double Indemnity to Thelma & Louise, Nicole Rafter and Michelle Brown show that criminological theory is produced not only in the academy through scholarly research, but also in popular culture through film. Criminology Goes to the Movies connects with ways in which students are already thinking criminologically through engagements with popular culture, encouraging them to use the everyday world as a vehicle for theorizing and understanding both crime and perceptions of criminality.   The first work to bring a systematic and sophisticated criminological perspective to bear on crime films, Rafter and Brown’s book provides a fresh way of looking at cinema using the concepts and analytical tools of criminology to uncover previously unnoticed meanings in film, ultimately making the study of criminological theory more engaging and effective for students while simultaneously demonstrating how theories of crime circulate in our mass-mediated worlds. With chapters focusing on films including Do the Right Thing, Capturing the Friedmans, and more, the result is an illuminating new way of seeing movies and a delightful way of learning about criminology.

For the first time, a group of tribes sharing a common culture called the Steppe their home, adapting themselves to its harshness. Born out of this environment, a very particular way to live was adopted and later spread to peoples of Central Asia—the pastoral nomadic lifestyle. The tale of the Scythians and Sarmatians have lasted through history, and although they had not one written historical record of their own, their presence was registered by dozens of classical historians. More importantly, though, their precious burial tombs still retained some of the civilizational remains of this extraordinary group of peoples.

Millions of people around the world have been diagnosed with incurable autoimmune diseases like Multiple Sclerosis. Debilitating conditions that make us tired, ill, and miserable. The only solution the medical industry offers are side-effect riddled maintenance drugs such as steroids and painkillers.Getting a formal diagnosis of MS is often a lengthy and challenging process. Many never get a medical confirmation of what is happening to their mind and body at all! Countless individuals live in constant pain and discomfort because they incorrectly assume all their health problems are the natural result of aging.Unfortunately, Craig Beck joined this ill-health demographic at the age of 48. After suffering months of severe symptoms, eventually, he too got handed the autoimmunity life sentence. However, rather than accept the hand as it was dealt. He remembered that the best medicine for a long and healthy life is found at the end of your fork, not the doctor's prescription pad. Craig decided to fall back on his research into natural medicine. He designed a diet and lifestyle that made inflammation the enemy and target. A process that would show amazing success at pushing Multiple Sclerosis firmly into near-permanent remission. In this special MS addition of the Autoimmune Antidote, you will gain valuable insight into the new, natural approach that can help you prevent and maybe even reverse the life-limiting symptoms of Multiple Sclerosis and other inflammatory health problems.
