Synopsis

In the second instalment of The K-Twelve Legacy Series, following on from the original Fallon: Non Est Optio Defectum, Jonathan Fallon is in semi-retirement, enjoying becoming both a husband and a father. However, his idyllic world is soon shattered after an encounter at his local pub turns violent and the perpetrator wreaks his vengeance on Fallon by kidnapping his wife and young son after ambushing the family whilst they were out walking.
Leaving Fallon for dead, Lukas Falcone takes his 'prize' home with him to Kalander Island, which is owned by his father, industrialist Alexandre Falcone. Jonathan Fallon must use all his skills to recover his wife and son as well as solving the unanswered question left over from the original novel: who financed the Riga affair in Egypt?
In a plot that twists and turns and drips with revenge, a mysterious hitman arrives on the island, summoned there by Falcone senior to deal with the Fallon problem. Who is this Louis Serpens and where does he fit into this complicated chess game of move and countermove? And just how far will Agent K-Twelve go to save his family?

After her stagecoach collides with the Marquis of Stade’s speeding curricle on the road to Blackwater, slender golden-haired beauty, Gretna Hayden, is somewhat at the mercy of this cynical-lipped yet handsome Nobleman.

Knowing this and concerned for Gretna’s reputation, her companion and chaperone, the rotund Mrs. Merryweather, passes her off as her niece when they arrive at his magnificent nearby Stately home.

Sadly the Marquis seems to take her lowly status as an excuse to proposition her in way that he would never dream of treating a Society lady.

Little does he suspect that Gretna is the daughter of just such a lady and one with a scandalous past and illustrious connections of her own – namely with The Prince of Wales’s consort, Maria Fitzherbert, or Aunt Maria to Gretna!

The gossip-mongers in the late 1780s were all speculating that the Prince and Mrs. Fitzherbert had been secretly married and purely by chance Gretna found that it was indeed true.

Gretna hates the steely-eyed and supercilious Marquis with his sarcasm and curled lip, especially when he has the temerity to suggest that Mrs. Fitzherbert’s residence in the smartest part of London is an unsuitable place for a young girl like Gretna to be staying.

But then his arrogance pales into insignificance compared to the vile predatory Lord Wroxhall, who pursues Gretna mercilessly until finally love comes out of hiding for the Marquis and his golden-haired Gretna.

Presented here are the final twelve tales (of fifty-six) featuring Sherlock Holmes and John Watson as penned by their creator, the legendary Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. These stories appeared between 1921 and 1927 in The Strand and Liberty Magazines and Collier's Weekly and represent the last time Doyle would set pen to paper to describe the adventures of his greatest characters. From Holmes' confrontation with the charming and murderously evil Baron Gruner in "The Adventure of the Illustrious Client" to the final case in the official Sherlock Holmes canon: "The Adventure of Shoscombe Old Place," wherein Holmes must solve a mystery involving a champion racehorse....and a missing family corpse. Without question the greatest detective in literary history, these are the final Sherlock Holmes stories created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle himself and the only stories narrated by Holmes himself! They are presented here in their original and unabridged format.

Art. The greatest standard bearer of what the human condition really is? Or Emperor’s Clothes, cheap gimmicks displayed as all-knowing?
When it comes to writing we have our favourite authors. But what of the authors themselves. What are they keen to write of?
For our classic authors; from Poe to Lovecraft, from Woolf to Fitzgerald art in their words, is something to be admired. From many angles, many views, their stories, their characters interact with art and the consequences fall as they may.
