Sinopsis

I can’t help the way I am. I love men and I want sex daily, but my husband’s traveling for work gave me far too much freedom, and I used it well and often. I’ve always been a cheater and I’m an expert at keeping it a secret. At least I was. I’m still cheating, but it’s no longer on my terms. The photos they have has seen to that.

~~~~~ Excerpt ~~~~~
I was busy in the kitchen one Thursday when there was a knock on my front door. Ever since my stepson Reid went off to college four years ago, my front door had been pretty quiet.
I saw a tall man’s shape in my front door. I stopped a few feet away. “Yes, who is it?”
A familiar voice. “Hey, Mrs. Stuart. It’s Todd.”
I smiled. Todd was one of my stepson’s inner circle of friends. Part of the Four Amigos as they called themselves. Unlike my stepson, away at university, Todd wasn’t the college type, but had gotten an apprenticeship with the local electrician’s union.
I opened the door and smiled at the tall, handsome young man. Like Reid, he’d played on the high school football team and still looked fit. “Hey, Todd. What brings you here? Reid won’t be home for another few weeks.”
Todd tapped a manila envelope that he held in his right hand. “Can I come in? I’ve got something I want to discuss with you.”
I looked at him curiously and stepped back. “Well, sure you can.”
I turned and led him in, feeling his eyes on me. Though I was wearing a thin comfy blouse and a gypsy skirt, I couldn’t help but feel naked in front of him. When we reached the kitchen, I turned. “I hope you’re not selling anything.”
Todd chuckled under his breath and looked at me. “You look good Mrs. S. You always do.”
There was something I didn’t like in his face just then. He held out the manila envelope and a feeling of dread came over me. I stepped to the kitchen counter and opened the envelope. What I saw made my heart skip a few beats.
I turned to him. “Where did you get these?!” I asked, crushing the printed photos in my hand.
His smile was ironic. “I’d think that would be obvious. I took them.” He laughed and took the crumpled pages from my hand. “Don’t be so rude. Let’s look at these.”
He spread the three images out on the counter. “Let’s see here. This is you and an unnamed man going into a room at the Garden Inn in Malabar. You can even see your Lexus there, parked in front.”
I tried to deny it. “Todd, it’s really not what you think. We were discussing a land investment deal there on the beach. I really wasn’t …”
He cut me off. “And here’s another one of you coming out the next morning.”
I sighed. “Todd, I …”
He waved his hand and pointed at the last image. “And here’s you and Mr. Unnamed Man, kissing at your car door. That doesn’t look very business-like to me.”
I ran my hands down over my face and knew I was in deep trouble.
Todd stepped up to me and looked into my eyes with humor. “You know what I wonder? I wonder if you’re wearing panties in this photo.” He pointed to the image. “Or if they are in Mr. Unnamed Man’s front pocket?”
I frowned at him. “Now Todd, there’s no need to be vulgar. Behave yourself.”
He straightened up to his full six-foot-plus height and glared down at me.
I crossed my arms over my chest. “Now, since you are here talking to me, you obviously want something. Do you want money? I can get you money.” I met his eyes squarely, but his amused look shook me to my soul.
“Money? No, Evelyn, I don’t want money,” he said with a smile. It was the first time I could recall him ever calling me by my first name. All of Reid’s friends had always called us Mr. and Mrs. Stuart.
I gasped and choked a bit. “Then what do you want?”
His smile widened.
    A “brilliant,” “engaging,” and “valuable,” (Financial Times) exploration of why capitalism hurts women and how socialism, when done right, can bring economic independence, better labor conditions and, yes, even better sex. In Why Women Have Better Sex Under Socialism, acclaimed ethnographer Kristen R. Ghodsee argues that unregulated capitalism disproportionately harms women—at work, at home, in government, and in the bedroom. Having spent years researching what happened to women in countries that transitioned from state socialism to capitalism, Ghodsee claims that by rejecting the bad and salvaging the good, we can adapt some socialist ideas to the twenty-first century and improve our lives.   This book is a spirited, witty, and deeply researched exploration of why socialism—when done right—can lead to economic independence, better work life balance, and yes, even better sex. It's become increasingly clear to women that capitalism isn’t working for us, and Ghodsee is the informed, lively guide who can show us the way forward.
    R.W. Johnson's articles and essays travel far beyond Southern Africa, reaching readers across continents. Their appeal lies not only in their acuity but also in his exceptional range of subjects – political, historical and cultural. As a former Oxford don and a leading international commentator, Johnson remains unmatched as an interpreter of national and world events.
    Whether he's writing about politics in South Africa, Europe or the United States, the new space race, the leading personalities of our time, or even soccer, his views are always sharp, clear, deeply informed and original.
    These essays belong unmistakably to the tradition of George Orwell. Orwell aspired to make political writing an art form, but his finest essays – even those on seemingly trivial subjects such as boys' comics – revealed both a penetrating intelligence and remarkable breadth. Johnson's writing is similar in spirit: like Orwell's, his essays can be read consecutively or dipped into at random, each one offering something striking and original.
    The result is A Roving Eye, a book that is not just distinctive but truly unique, marked by depth, range, humanity and a rare sophistication.
    R.W. Johnson, author of 17 books and innumerable articles, attended schools in the UK and South Africa, did his first degree at the University of Natal and was then a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford. For 26 years he was a Fellow and Tutor at Magdalen College, Oxford and he remains a Fellow of the College. An expert in French, British, American and South African politics, his books have ranged over all these interests and for many years he also wrote for The (London) Times, Sunday Times, the London Review of Books, Le Monde Diplomatique and other titles in the international media. Johnson's writings have been widely praised and have often excited controversy. He is a master of the essay form and his essays have had a wide circulation. He is married to the Russian scholar, Irina Filatova, and they live in Cape Town.
    A Short History of European Law brings to life 2,500 years of legal history, tying current norms to the circumstances of their conception. Tamar Herzog describes how successive legal systems built upon one another, from ancient times through the European Union. Roman law formed the backbone of each configuration, though the way it was used and reshaped varied dramatically from one century and place to the next. Only by considering Continental civil law and English common law together do we see how they drew from and enriched this shared tradition.
    Benedict Spinoza's 'A Theologico-Political Treatise' challenges prevailing religious and political dogmas of his time. With bold reasoning, Spinoza advocates for intellectual freedom, questioning the role of theology in governance. This seminal work lays the groundwork for secularism, advocating for a state where reason prevails over religious authority. A visionary treatise, it remains a cornerstone in discussions on freedom, politics, and the separation of church and state. Read in English, unabridged.
