Synopsis

In the mid 1950s, Liverpool demands more water for its industries. The Tryweryn valley near Bala in North Wales is chosen for a new reservoir. But a community will be drowned in the process and residents lose their homes and livelihoods. Debates in Parliament and protest marches achieve nothing. Can direct action be taken? Smallholder Rhydian Williams is persuaded that it can and devises a plot to stop the reservoir dam being built. DI Terry Richards of Special Branch is sent from Cardiff to find out what is going on and to take action as needed. With the help of local police officers Sergeant Eddie Jenkins and WPC Rhian Davies, he intervenes but with fatal consequences for those involved.

When faced with the primal act of survival, how far would you go to stay alive? Compound this by 1,000, the number of your people in your care, with only you and your dwindling warriors here to protect them from a manic group of black dragons attacking. This is the exact predicament Khellin finds himself in.
As chieftain of the Ol'sackay, Khellin's main priority is the health and safety of his clan, but right now, both are being threatened. Astride his Winddoger, Khellin watches helplessly while hundreds of his warriors lay dying all around him in this bitter fight for their lives. Desperate, Khellin turns to the only being left that can possibly help his people—Aslean.
Hers are the gifts of Castalar, and she, at this point, is their only hope. Pressured by everything going on around him, Khellin will have to forfeit the responsibility of his clan to Aslean, who has offered to send the very ones he promised to protect into the unknown. Numbly, he holds on to the whispered promise floating in his mind that he will get them back when it is safe. But sacrifice is seldom measured with even scales, and Khellin's hope is that they tip his way.
Thrust into a position he never expected to find himself in, Brezlin, the youngest member of his family, must now prove that he has what it takes to lead. As the newly self-appointed leader of the currently displaced Ol'Sackay, Brezlin must now forge ahead into this unfamiliar land with unexpected dangers and impossible obstacles awaiting them. Brezlin's insecurities build having his shortcomings pointed out in comparison to Khellin. Can he gain their trust and respect enough to follow him in this new life?

Mothers talk about impossible choices. But, as I look at my daughter in a hospital bed, her red hair fanning out around her, my heart feels literally torn in two. Should I risk my son’s life to save my daughter, or keep my little boy safe and watch my precious girl slip away? My darling daughter Tara has a rare form of cancer and there’s nothing I can do. At eleven years old, she’s already been so brave, but my sweet girl is hanging on by her fingernails. She has one last chance: a bone marrow transplant from her little brother. But nine-year-old Callum has an autoimmune disease, and there’s a chance it will put him at risk. It’s life or death for one of my children and I have to make this decision alone. I wish there was someone by my side to help me and my family through this terrible time. But life has hit us so hard recently. A few months ago, my beloved husband died in a tragic accident and now I might lose Tara too. All I want to do is to protect my children: so much has been taken from us already. I hope for a miracle, but my daughter is running out of days, and I have to choose. If I make the wrong choice, will I lose one of my precious children forever? Being in love with my straight friend isn’t easy…
I thought pining for Daniel was an epic tragedy, but then I found out I’m a conduit—someone who can communicate with beings from the otherworld—and my unrequited love for one of my best friends seems less of a problem.
So when a spirit is destroyed while trying to warn me of an approaching disaster, it makes sense for Daniel to step up and help me search for more information. Or it does until my mom turns up twenty years after abandoning me and Daniel turns into Mr. Protective. One thing leads to another, and somehow the whole town now thinks we’re dating.
As if all that isn’t enough to deal with, Daniel’s having a bisexual awakening, and he’s looking to me, his gay friend, to guide him through it. I’d do anything for him, but the thought of being with him and then watching him move on to another guy… I don’t know if my heart can take it.
But I have to toughen up and get on with it, because whatever’s happening in the otherworld is spilling over to here, and it’s going to take everyone we’ve got to keep humanity safe… if we can.
