Synopsis

The author was a businessman from New York who got tired of the “Big City” life and was unhappy for some time. He decided to move as far away from that environment. Taking only his dog, some gear, and an open heart he travelled to Canada.

"THEY all said I was crazy. That is, everyone who knew of my plans for the future said so. They’d look at me, and shake their heads, and mutter: ‘The guy’s just plain nuts.’
When I finally began to agree with them, it was then too late for me to do anything about it. I was seated in a canoe, well past the last outpost of civilization, headed north towards the bit of insular real estate I had bought, unseen, deep in the Canadian bush country. For the first time in months I had the opportunity to relax and do a bit of meditating, and I was in a perfect spot for it..."

Living the American Dream at the pinnacle of his life, R.W. Long had it all: a loving family, a promising career, and a multitude of blessings. All of this was cut short with the diagnosis of an incurable disease. In the prime of life, he lost nearly everything he had worked for and felt he was given a life sentence and incarcerated in his own body—a body that no longer obeyed his commands and that would fail him in new ways daily.
For eight years, the struggle wore him down, nearly to the point of no return. Then came the phone call in the dead of night from a war-torn country half a world away.
“Dad, I don’t think I’m going to make it out of here alive.”
These words set in motion the most important mission of Long’s life: Learning to walk again in order to meet his son. What was once considered an impossibility was transformed into a goal and a mission.
Set against the backdrop of the quest for Kilimanjaro’s summit, Push the Rock is the true story of faith, second chances, and the power of family to overcome life’s greatest challenges.

For almost the duration of his professional career, during which he was a mainstay for Leinster and Ireland, the name Jamie Heaslip was synonymous with the No 8 jersey. An athletic and tireless presence at the base of the pack, outspoken both on and off the field, not to mention a captain for province and country, he was one of the leading lights of a generation that helped propel Irish rugby to previously uncharted heights.
Written in partnership with Matt Cooper, All In is the story of Heaslip's thirteen years at rugby's frontline, as demanding and uncompromising a place as can be found in professional sport. From the euphoria and disappointment of life on the field to the major relationships that have helped shape the team – for better or worse – it's the most vivid portrait yet of life behind the scenes at Leinster and Ireland, and a compelling account of what it means to put your body on the line in pursuit of excellence.

Principles of Economics was a leading economics textbook of Alfred Marshall (1842-1924), first published in 1890. Marshall began writing the book in 1881, and he spent much of the next decade at work on it.His plan for the work gradually extended to a two-volume compilation on the whole of economic thought; the first volume was published in 1890 to worldwide acclaim that established him as one of the leading economists of his time. It brought the ideas of supply and demand, of marginal utility and of the costs of production into a coherent whole, and became the dominant economic textbook in England for a long period. The second volume, which was to address foreign trade, money, trade fluctuations, taxation, and collectivism, was never published at all. (Summary from Wikipedia)This reading is based on the eighth edition, published in 1920.

The #1 New York Times–bestselling author and child abuse survivor reveals the challenges that he still faces as an adult, as a husband, and as a father.    In the blockbuster autobiography A Child Called “It”, Dave Pelzer shared the story of his childhood—one of the most dramatic and extreme stories of child abuse ever prosecuted in the state of California. As a child, Pelzer was beaten, starved, and abused both emotionally and physically by his alcoholic and mentally unstable mother. As a man, Pelzer went on to have love, happiness, a fulfilling career, and a family of his own.   To many, Pelzer seemed to have found his happy ending. But for a child abuse survivor, living a normal adult life carries challenges and complications above and beyond those faced by most people. This book, the fifth in Pelzer’s nonfiction series, provides an honest and courageous look at the difficulties inherent in marriage, parenthood, work, and life from the perspective of someone who survived horrific physical and emotional terrors as a child—and who seeks to meet the responsibilities and complications of adult life with love, strength, and an open heart.

Once Jennifer finally found treatment after surviving the last of multiple suicide attempts, she discovered that it was possible to heal her shame. She could start to recover by uncovering the secrets she had kept hidden for years. Blackout Girl is the heartbreaking, enlightening, and inspiring story of Jennifer's narrow escape from her own self-destructive instincts when all of the odds, and systems, were stacked against her.Since Blackout Girl was first published in 2008, Jennifer has seen the #MeToo and Times Up movements empower countless brave survivors to reveal the truth of their experiences. Yet, our society is only just beginning to truly understand and support victims and recognize the importance of trauma-informed care. Now more relevant than ever, Jennifer's story and professional insights expose the societal failures these victims have endured, and how we can all help each other heal.
