  Amid this backdrop of suffering and instability, Adolf Hitler emerged as a figure who would exploit the widespread discontent. Born in Austria in 1889, Hitler’s early life was marked by struggle and obscurity. He moved to Munich in the early 1910s, where he became involved in nationalist politics.
