Alice.First thing you should know about me: I'm on my honeymoon on Villroy Island without my groom, which was a no-brainer given how my ex-fiancé decided to "accidentally" fall in love with my best friend. I'm about to admit defeat when a prince with an image problem falls into my lap. And for some crazy reason, it's decided that me posing as his fiancé would be a good idea. He noticed her as he came through the door that led into the arrival hall. He had actually stopped to adjust his eyeglasses and was hoping on moving on to the exit with the slim briefcase he held in his hand.
The woman was holding a placard in her hand. There was something about her that made him take a closer look. It wasn’t as if he was the only person who had caught sight of the woman. He observed that other people, including men and women, who encountered her either had to take another look after they walked past her, or they deliberately stopped walking quickly in order to get a good look at her.
So even if he was supposed to be guilty and charged for staring, moping, or leering, at least he knew he wasn’t going to be alone.
She reminded him of a pilot, the way that the black cap rested on her head as if it was meant to always be there. She wore it so well that it perfectly complemented her silver colored hair. And speaking of her hair, she chose to allow it to fall loosely on her shoulders and on her back.
Her eyes were big, taking in everything that came within view. As she looked around, the long artificial eyelashes that she had on flicked and fluttered like the wings of a bird.
Her nose was straight and pointed, while her lips were full and painted in bright red.
She was dressed in what appeared to be a uniform made up of a white short-sleeved blouse and a pair of black pants. But it was not her uniform that was eye-catching. It was the figure inside the uniform.

The definitive compilation of texts from “a great, horrifying, but also vastly illuminating figure . . . one of the most radical minds in Western history” (Newsweek).   The Marquis de Sade, vilified by respectable society from his own time through ours, apotheosized by Apollinaire as “the freest spirit that has yet existed,” wrote The 120 Days of Sodom while imprisoned in the Bastille. An exhaustive catalogue of sexual aberrations and the first systematic exploration—a hundred years before Krafft-Ebing and Freud—of the psychology of sex, it is considered Sade’s crowning achievement and the cornerstone of his thought. Lost after the storming of the Bastille in 1789, it was later retrieved but remained unpublished until 1904.   In addition to The 120 Days, this volume includes Sade’s “Reflections on the Novel,” his play Oxtiern, and his novella Ernestine. The selections are introduced by Simone de Beauvoir’s landmark essay “Must We Burn Sade?” and Pierre Klossowski’s provocative “Nature as Destructive Principle.”   “Imperious, choleric, irascible, extreme in everything, with a dissolute imagination the like of which has never been seen, atheistic to the point of fanaticism, there you have me in a nutshell, and kill me again or take me as I am, for I shall not change.” —Marquis de Sade’s last will and testament
