Hunter is just getting used to life as a vampire detective when he begins developing a remarkable new ability - one that none of his fellow agents at The Order have ever witnessed.
While he tries to control this new power, Hunter, his lover, Kai, and fellow agents from the Dallas bureau are summoned to San Francisco, where there is evidence a project to mutate ordinary citizens into human-animal hybrids has resumed.
What Hunter learns about his true self could help in tracking down those responsible - and could put his comrades in mortal jeopardy.
    Praise for West of Nowhere:
McPherson's style awakens old world vampire stories and entwines them with mystery/thriller overtones, making the resultant narrative decidedly unique... West of Nowhere weaves a wealth of supernatural fantasy components together, interlacing them with themes of belonging and regret into one intense, fast-moving story. --The BookLife Prize
Fans of The Dresden Files or The Southern Vampire Mysteries (but with more edge and less camp) will find a lot to enjoy here. It's fast, it's dark, and it leaves you with just enough unease to keep the lights on at night. (Thomas Anderson, Literary Titan)

"HE CAME TO WASHINGTON FOR BRRRRRRRRAINS. NO WONDER HE'S STILL HUNGRY. The undead have risen from their graves, and society hangs by a thread. But America's political parties aren't going to let a little thing like the zombie apocalypse get in the way of a presidential election. There are nasty whispers about the incumbent, though, and they have nothing to do with where he was born. The rumor: He's dead. Could a zombie be running for President? It's up to ace Washington Tribune reporter Jan Woods to find out. Cadaver in Chief, the new novella from New York Times bestseller Steve Hockensmith (Pride and Prejudice and Zombies: Dawn of the Dreadfuls), follows Woods on her search for the truth...a search that puts her up against the most dangerous ghouls in Washington. Oh, and zombies, too."

Award winnning narrrator Mike Vendetti reads "Jon's World," a short story by Philip K. Dick, first published in 1954. It is a sequel to his earlier short story "Second Variety."
The story is set in the year 2051, after a nuclear war between the United States and the Soviet Union. The war has left the Earth a devastated wasteland, and most of the human population has been forced to live on the Moon.
The story follows the character of Jon, a young boy who has been having visions of a different world, a world where the war never happened and humans and robots live together in peace. Jon's parents believe that he is mentally ill, and they take him to see a doctor. The doctor performs a lobotomy on Jon, which leaves him unable to have any more visions.
However, Jon's visions have already had an impact on the world. A group of scientists have developed a time machine, and they use it to travel back in time to 1951, just before the war started. They hope to prevent the war from happening by destroying the research that led to the development of the robot "claws" that turned against humanity.
The scientists are successful in their mission, and the war never happens. However, when they return to the future, they find that the world has changed. Humans and robots have never learned to live together in peace, and the world is now ruled by a totalitarian regime.
The story ends with Jon, who is now an adult, reflecting on the events of the story. He realizes that his visions were not just a product of his imagination but a glimpse of a possible future. He wonders if it is too late to change the course of history and prevent the world from becoming a totalitarian nightmare.
"Jon's World" is a thought-provoking story that explores the themes of free will, determinism, and the power of imagination. It is a reminder that the choices we make today can have a profound impact on the future of our world.

The rogue AI Penny Royal makes a final stand in the explosive conclusion to Neal Asher's hard-hitting and high-tech Polity space opera trilogy.

In the outskirts of space, and the far corners of the Polity, complex dealings are in play.

Several forces continue to pursue the deadly and enigmatic Penny Royal, none more dangerous than the Brockle, a psychopathic forensics AI and criminal who has escaped the Polity’s confinements and is upgrading itself in anticipation of a deadly showdown, becoming ever more powerful and intelligent.

Aboard Factory Station Room 101, the behemoth war factory that birthed Penny Royal, groups of humans, alien prador, and AI war drones grapple for control. The stability of the ship is complicated by the arrival of a gabbleduck known as the Weaver, the last living member of the ancient and powerful Atheter alien race.

What would an Atheter want with the complicated dealings of Penny Royal? Are the Polity and prador forces playing right into the dark AI’s hand, or is it the other way around? Set pieces align in the final book of Neal Asher’s action-packed Transformation trilogy, pointing to a showdown on the cusp of the Layden’s Sink black hole, inside of which lies a powerful secret, one that could destroy the entire Polity.
