Europe, Love Me Back is a collection of relentlessly questing, sharply satirical poems about the continent, and the poet's fraught relationship with it. Hurting yet clear-eyed, Rizwan explores and exposes what it means to be a small brown woman in Dutch suburbs, hospitals and academia

This is an angry love letter, to a place left behind yet always there, continuing to matter and hurt and shape the poet's identity.
"But no one was interested in eliciting my testimony;
after all I wasn't dead – I wasn't ill – and hadn't this
country treated me so well?
For it is not a human right to be much more than Agamben's bare life,
to exist in the hallowed halls of the academe,
because there comes a point when our wanting
is simply too much, obscene –"

Geoffrey Bache Smith

Geoffrey Bache Smith was born in Staffordshire on 18th October 1894.  
 
He attended King Edward’s School, Birmingham at the same time as J.R.R. Tolkien, where they founded the literary “Tea Cup and Barovian Society”. 
  
Geoffrey was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the 19th (Service) Battalion of the Lancashire Fusiliers, the ‘3rd Salford Pals’, and took part in the Battle of the Somme.  
 
He was wounded by shrapnel on 29th November 1916 and died from his wounds on 3rd December 1916. 
 
He was buried in Warlincourt Halte British Cemetery, Saulty, France.

In England the Victorian Age was about to become the past and a new age of worldwide wars of horror and slaughter would envelop and decimate generations, forever staining mankind.   
 
The Century would see the World discover strengths. The Democracies would stand firm against Fascism and later Communism yet still keep its own elite and privileged in power and the rest of us underfoot.
