Beschreibung

My son reminded me that it must get worse before it gets better, that there is a silver lining in everywhere we go and everything we do, yet it is on us to choose to see it or not! There were days where we thought this is it… this is the end of the tunnel and hey no light here! And there, right there at rock bottom is where I witnessed, experienced and lived the true definition of…rise again.

Who ever heard of an Irish Jew? Set during World War II and the Holocaust era, Emerald Ark, Memories of a Jewish Irish Youth, a memoir, shares the story of an adventurous and uncommon life — the life of Theo Garb. Born in Manchester, England, in 1929, Theo grew up an Orthodox Jew in Dublin, Ireland. His parents, Wolf, a larger-than-life figure, and Rachel, have their hands full with Theo and elder brother, Abe, as they mature into adulthood and stray from Orthodox observance. Theo's story, which includes a romantic tale of interfaith love, is poignant and humorous — one filled with laughter and tears. He will tug at your heartstrings and teach you a bit as well, about following one's heart and living life to the fullest!Amazon review: ***** What a pleasure to read Theo's story. Uplifting, amusing and candid. With so much going on in the world it was wonderful to escape into Theo's adventures. His love for life, culture, faith and family is tremendous and we have the joy of traveling along with him. I smiled often and appreciate the attention to detail. It also has to be noted that the historical aspect is engaging and enlightening. Can't wait for the movie!

As the lead singer of Modern Romance he toured the world, as the screenwriter of Kinky Boots he conquered Hollywood, now comes Geoff Deane's latest act as a quite brilliant and witty ranconteur in his hilarious memoir From Mohair Suits to Kinky Boots….

Geoff has been a fly-pitcher working out of a suitcase, and flogged suits on Brick Lane market in London's East End. He was the singer in a much-loved culty punk band the Leyton Buzzards, a floppy-haired pop star in Modern Romance, a songwriter, and record producer. He wrote a gay anthem for John Waters drag queen muse Divine, worked as journalist and restaurant critic for style magazines The Face and Arena, before becoming a successful writer and producer of TV comedy. And then hewrote a couple of films, one of which, Kinky Boots became a Tony Award winning Broadway stage show.

This is the tale of life lived large, a collection of uproarious and often moving stories from Geoff's youth as a clothes obsessed Jewish suedehead, hanging out in Tottenham dancehalls, via straight Bowie Boy frequenting London's gay clubs, gender confusion in Manhattan's Studio 54, and on to huge career success as a screenwriter.

With a cast ranging from local oddballs to international celebrities, Geoff Deane's unique take on the world is only matched by his extraordinarily rich use of language, with a smattering of Cockney rhyming slang, Yiddish and Polari.

    Introduction by Maurice Gran

Getting It is about finding what one loves most and then prioritizing all the things that matter. It's about managing fear, doubt, and indecision in a way that overrides the impulses to pass up what matters most in favor of what one desires in the moment.Getting It is what often happens too late in life, if it happens at all. Perhaps ignorance is bliss, but failure is not. And after six decades of people-watching, Author Pat O'Connor began to notice similar traits among those who seem to have it together. He also noticed common traits among those who do not.
Getting It is his attempt to crystalize those differences into seven simple rules.

The Wild West and the frontier have long held a special place in the narrative of American history, and all of the legends and folk heroes who lived in the 19th century owe their reputation to the original American frontier folk hero, Daniel Boone. Boone was literally a trailblazer: the legendary pioneer established his Wilderness Road by striking west into present-day Kentucky and establishing Boonesborough, one of the earliest white settlements west of the Appalachians. Hundreds of thousands of settlers would follow his path by the end of the 18th century.
While that was an important and proud legacy for the former Revolutionary War militiaman and Virginia State Assemblyman, Boone became known for the outsized tales and adventures associated with his foray into the frontier. Far and wide, people spoke of Boone’s expert marksmanship, his encounters with wild bears, and his hardscrabble frontier life, making him a living legend and the prototypical Western frontier folk hero in America.
Of all the legends and folk heroes who lived in the 19th century, none became as famous as Davy Crockett, “The King of the Wild Frontier”. Crockett had the distinction of being a living legend in his own life. Known as a hardscrabble frontiersman who could spin a good yarn but who also took a no-nonsense approach that brought him from the backwoods of Tennessee to the halls of Congress. Though he served during the presidency of another Westerner, Andrew Jackson, Crockett was very much his own man, and he was distrustful of other politicians, a sentiment that has only endured him further to subsequent generations of Americans.
In 1834, Crockett was promoting his autobiography, which provided colorful accounts of his life on the frontier, all while facing reelection.
