Beschreibung

Artifacts and Ethics explores the complex moral issues surrounding cultural artifacts, focusing on ownership, repatriation, and ethical acquisition. The book argues for ethical considerations to be central in decisions about artifacts. It balances cultural heritage preservation with the rights of source communities, challenging Western-centric views. For instance, it examines how colonial history has shaped current museum collections, creating power imbalances that led to the removal of artifacts from their original locations. It also highlights the importance of understanding cultural property rights in a global context where social justice and human rights are paramount.

The book begins by giving a historical context, then introduces ethical frameworks like deontology and utilitarianism to analyze the roles of museums, source communities, collectors, and governments. It looks at the history of collecting and its impact, the legal landscape, and the ethical dilemmas museums face. It uses historical documents, legal cases, and ethnographic studies to provide a comprehensive view.

The book aims to create a dialogue between museums and source communities and offers guidance for ethical policies and advocacy. It's a valuable resource for anyone interested in the ethical dimensions of cultural heritage, from students to policymakers.

This audiobook is narrated by an AI Voice.
Most people walk through life using instinct, emotion and survival patterns they never consciously chose. They repeat the same loops, fall into the same reactions and live inside identities built from old experiences rather than future possibilities. The Clarity Codes was written to change that.
This book reveals the psychological operating system behind your mind-the unseen structures, emotional algorithms and behavioural patterns that shape how you think, feel, act and evolve. Instead of motivational clichés, you get real mechanisms: how the brain forms loops, how emotions hijack logic, how habits embed into identity, how trauma becomes a pattern and how the mind can be retrained with precision.
Across its chapters, you’ll learn how to calm mental noise, regulate emotional floods, dissolve cognitive distortions, stop self-sabotage, rewire patterns, break cycles of avoidance and build a self-image that naturally creates better choices. Each concept comes with simple, direct tools you can use immediately-no jargon, no fluff, just clarity.
The book now includes three practical Clarity Protocols designed for different timeframes: a 30-minute reset, a 3-hour reset and a 3-week transformation plan, so you can apply the principles in the way that fits your life.
    You will learn how to:
    • interrupt overthinking without fighting thoughts
    • dissolve anxiety loops using cognitive and physical resets
    • stop emotional spirals before they take over
    • shift identity through small, repeatable actions
    • build habits that stick because they match who you are becoming
    • navigate relationships with clarity instead of reaction
    • process experiences without being overwhelmed
    • design your future self with intention rather than hope
By the end, you will gain something most people never receive: a clear internal map for being human.

Members of Eli Baxter’s generation are the last of the hunting and gathering societies living on Turtle Island. They are also among the last fluent speakers of the Anishinaabay language known as Anishinaabaymowin.

Aki-wayn-zih is a story about the land and its spiritual relationship with the Anishinaabayg, from the beginning of their life on Miss-koh-tay-sih Minis (Turtle Island) to the present day. Baxter writes about Anishinaabay life before European contact, his childhood memories of trapping, hunting, and fishing with his family on traditional lands in Treaty 9 territory, and his personal experience surviving the residential school system. Examining how Anishinaabay Kih-kayn-daa-soh-win (knowledge) is an elemental concept embedded in the Anishinaabay language, Aki-wayn-zih explores history, science, math, education, philosophy, law, and spiritual teachings, outlining the cultural significance of language to Anishinaabay identity. Recounting traditional Ojibway legends in their original language, fables in which moral virtues double as survival techniques, and detailed guidelines for expertly trapping or ensnaring animals, Baxter reveals how the residential school system shaped him as an individual, transformed his family, and forever disrupted his reserve community and those like it.

Through spiritual teachings, historical accounts, and autobiographical anecdotes, Aki-wayn-zih offers a new form of storytelling from the Anishinaabay point of view.

More than 5 million Americans are currently living with Alzheimer's disease or a related form of dementia. By the year 2030, experts estimate that as many as 66 million people will be faced with this life-altering disease. These statistics impact millions of caregivers. Compared with all types of caregivers, those who assist someone with dementia experience the highest levels of burnout, depression, poor health, and premature death. A Dignified Life, Revised and Expanded offers hope and help.

Ten years ago, the first edition of A Dignified Life changed the way the caregiving community approached Alzheimer's disease by showing caregivers how to act as a Best Friend to the person. Firmly grounded in the latest knowledge about dementia, this expanded edition offers a wealth of tips and advice.

While medical treatment of the disease hasn't changed, our understanding and awareness of treating people in a more caring way has changed. With no cure, respectful care by effective and compassionate care partners is the only real "treatment" available. The Best Friends Approach is successful because it sustains people's connection to their world, their loved ones, and themselves. A Dignified Life shows how to bring dignity, meaning, and peace of mind to the lives of both those who have Alzheimer's and dementia and those who care for them.

A powerful story of struggle, survival, and hope for the future is told by one of Denmark's most successful artists. The violent, compelling debut, co-written with journalist Dart Adams, provides a complex portrait of one man and the various ways in which every social system that was supposed to help him failed him, while also delving into the psychology of immigrant gangs and the young men who fall into them. But ultimately, it's a narrative about tenacity, survival, and optimism for the future. Sleiman was born in Lebanon during the 1982 bombardment and is a Palestinian. His family eventually moved to Denmark, but their new life there was far from perfect. Sleiman was subjected to domestic violence as well as social rejection as a Muslim immigrant. Angry and powerless, he found himself drawn to gang life.Sleiman had dropped out of school and was one of his gang's most feared and revered members as a teenager. He was involved in hundreds of crimes during his peak, but after surviving an attempted assassination, he addressed his demons and permanently abandoned the gang life. Sleiman is now narrating his story in his own words in the hopes of discouraging others from following in his footsteps.

In May 1999, the Kargil insurgency was still being viewed as a routine affair. No one quite understood the magnitude of the situation. However, it soon emerged that infiltrators had captured high-altitude posts vacated by Indian soldiers during the winter months and thus had a tactical upper hand, while the Indian Army struggled with intelligence.
For the next month or so, Capt. Anuj Nayyar and the men of 17 Jat went on various reconnaissance missions in the boulder-strewn Drass sector where enemy troops had set up base. They fought relentlessly in a gruesome battle for two nights in July, before securing the peak that was critical to the success of Operation Vijay and India's victory in Kargil. Amid heavy artillery and mortar fire, they destroyed four enemy bunkers and neutralized tens of infiltrators in close combat. During the attack on the fourth bunker, the twenty-three-year-old captain was hit by an enemy rocket-propelled grenade, dying instantly but saving the lives of fifteen men in the process, who eventually finished the mission and hoisted the Indian flag on the peak.
For motivating his command by personal example and going beyond the call of duty, Capt. Anuj Nayyar was awarded India's second-highest gallantry award, the Maha Vir Chakra, in 2000.
    This is his story.
