Sinopsis

The need for the development of biomaterials as scaffold for tissue regeneration is driven by the increasing demands for materials that mimic functions of extracellular matrices of body tissues. Unfolding the Biopolymer Landscape provides a unique account of “biopolymeric interventions” inherent to biotechnological applications, soft tissue engineering, ophthalmic drug delivery, biotextiles, environmentally responsive systems, neurotherapeutics, and emulsions-based formulations for food and pharmaceutical applications. Chapters in this volume also cover biomedical applications and implications of cationic polymers, collagen-based substrates, multifunctional polymers, shape memory biopolymers, hybrid semisynthetic biomaterials, microbial exopolysaccharides, biomaterials mimicking the extracellular microenvironment, derivatized polysaccharides, and metallic biomaterials.

Each chapter is distinctly written by experts in the respective fields and emphasis is given on the mechanistic profile of the performance of biopolymers and biomedical applications. This book provides both basic and advanced biopolymer information for scientific experts and early career researchers in the field of drug delivery, tissue engineering, nanomedicine, food technology, peptide science, biomaterial design, and nutrition.

“A sharp eye and an ingenious mind are at work on every page. . . . Read this book. . . . Then go forth, enjoy the view, and impress your friends.” —Laurence A. Marschall, Natural HistoryHow heavy is that cloud? Why can you see farther in rain than in fog? Why are the droplets on that spider web spaced apart so evenly? If you have ever asked questions like these while outdoors, and wondered how you might figure out the answers, this is a book for you. An entertaining and informative collection of fascinating puzzles from the natural world around us, A Mathematical Nature Walk will delight anyone who loves nature or math or both.John Adam presents ninety-six questions about many common natural phenomena—and a few uncommon ones—and then shows how to answer them using mostly basic mathematics. Can you weigh a pumpkin just by carefully looking at it? What causes the variations in the colors of butterfly wings, bird feathers, and oil slicks? And why are large haystacks prone to spontaneous combustion? These are just a few of the questions you'll find inside. Many of the problems are illustrated with photos and drawings, and the book also has answers, a glossary of terms, and a list of some of the patterns found in nature. About a quarter of the questions can be answered with arithmetic, and many of the rest require only precalculus. Regardless of math background, readers will learn from the informal descriptions of the problems and gain a new appreciation of the beauty of nature and the mathematics that lies behind it.“Remarkably lucid. . . . ordinary math becomes adventure.” —Booklist

The focus of this book is on Aliens having visited or living on this Earth. There is lots of evidence that not only are Aliens on Earth during the present, but have been here for thousands if not millions of years. There are lots of stories and some good evidence that this is all true. Even today there are videos of alien craft, and stories in the news about our government still studying and reporting on Aliens visiting us. •	What is this evidence of Aliens living on the Earth in the past and currently?•	And where do we separate the facts from the fiction? •	What technologies might these Aliens have?•	And how do these beings interact with our civilization?Lots of information is provided here to help better understand who the aliens are, how many types we know of, and how it might be possible for them to stay hidden on the Earth for thousands of years.Hope your find all this information interesting and it provides you with some food for thought.

When a young girl, Cardy Raper told her mother, "When I grow up I want to be a scientist and make grand discoveries!" Her mother responded, "You could become a nurse." Science was a man's world then. Cardy refused to take "no" for an answer.   Her dream seemed attainable when she met her mentor, Professor John "Red" Raper at the University of Chicago who said "Yes, you can be a scientist!" They became soul mates, fell in love, married, parented children, moved to Harvard, and did research together on the versatile sex life of fungi.  Red's untimely death left Cardy alone in the competitive world of cuttingedge science. She carried on, obtained a doctoral degree, learned the techniques of molecular genetics, and established her own laboratory where she conducted pioneering research on the genetic and molecular determinants of sexual reproduction in a mushroombearing fungus with 20,000 different sexes. This fungus has served as a model organism for exploring the way in which sensing molecules, such as pheromones, function to communicate in more complex organisms.
