Marco Emilio Polo, born in Venice, was a Venetian merchant, explorer, and writer who became renowned for his extraordinary travels across Asia between 1271 and 1295. His journey, which spanned much of the Silk Road, was chronicled in The Travels of Marco Polo, also known as Book of the Marvels of the World and Il Milione (circa 1300). This book introduced Europeans to the vast and mysterious cultures of the East, revealing the immense wealth and size of the Mongol Empire and the Yuan Dynasty in China. It provided the first detailed European account of countries like Persia, India, Japan, and several other regions in Asia, offering a window into worlds previously unknown to the West.
Marco's journey was influenced by his family’s mercantile background. His father and uncles, Niccolò and Maffeo Polo, were established traders who had ventured into Asia, meeting the powerful Mongol leader, Kublai Khan. In 1269, after returning to Venice, they reunited with Marco and set off again for Asia. Along the Silk Road, they encountered various cultures and challenges before reaching Cathay, modern-day China, where they were welcomed by Kublai Khan’s court. The Khan was impressed with Marco’s intelligence and demeanor, appointing him as his foreign emissary. This role allowed Marco to undertake diplomatic missions across the Mongol Empire and beyond, traveling to places such as Burma, India, Sri Lanka, and Indonesia.

If We Knew Better We'd Move...

Most of us were never taught how to move. We learned to walk, to run, to jump, and then life took over. The habits stuck. The good ones and the bad ones.
If We Knew Better, We'd Move Better is about the years that shape all of it. The idea is simple. The way a child learns to move between the ages of two and eight becomes the way they move for the rest of their life. Coach Steve Stokes calls this the Two8 Window. It is the window where movement gets wired in.
This book is for parents who want to give their kids a real foundation. It is for coaches who want to understand why some athletes move with ease and others fight their own bodies. And it is for anyone who has ever felt like their body was working against them and wondered if it was too late to change.
Drawing on more than twenty years of coaching and a career as a professional athlete, Coach Stokes breaks down how movement is built, where it breaks down, and what you can do about it at any age. No jargon. No fluff. Just clear, simple lessons you can use today.
This is Volume One in The Seeds of Movement series. It will change the way you watch your kids play. It will change the way you move. And it will plant a seed that grows for a lifetime.
    Press play. Let's move better.

Corpse Care - Ethics for Tending...

Corpse Care relates the history of death care in the US to craft robust, constructive, practical ethics for tending the dead. It specifically relates corpse care to economic, environmental, and pastoral concerns.

Death and the treatment of the dead body loom large in our collective, cultural consciousness. The authors explore the materiality and meaning of the dead body and the living's relationship to it. All the biggest questions facing the planetary human community relate in one way or another to the corpse. Surprisingly, Christian communities are largely missing in the discussion of the dead, having abdicated the historic role in care for the dead to the funeral industry. Christianity has stopped its reflection about the body once that body no longer bears life. Corpse Care stakes a claim that the fact of embodiment, this incarnational truth, this process of our bodily becoming, is a practical, ethical, and theological necessity.

  • The Secret and Sublime - Taoist Mysteries and Magic - cover

The Secret and Sublime - Taoist...

First published in 1973, The Secret and Sublime is a warmly sympathetic account of Taoism, a colorful religion and way of life. Perhaps for the first time, all aspects of Taoism are brought together within one audiobook: popular Taoism with its lavish ceremonies, demon exorcism, oracles, ghosts, fox-fairies and adepts with strange powers; yogic Taoism with its emphasis on rejuvenation and longevity attained by means of sexual conservation yoga or by the ‘internal alchemy’; philosophical Taoism comprising ancient teachings which foreshadow present day youth's revolt against ruthless compulsion, hypocrisy, sterile pedagogy and over concern for money; and mystical Taoism which, like Zen, aims at direct experience of that reality which, lying beyond the confines of conceptual thought, is nevertheless ‘closer than a mother to a child in her womb’.

Most of the audiobook relates to the author’s personal experiences as the guest of Taoist recluses practicing, amidst surroundings of exquisite natural beauty, the ego free Taoist art of ‘doing by not doing’. This is an interesting listen for those with general interest in Taoist philosophy.
