Synopsis

Illustrated with over 150 color photographs, Crested Geckos is an authoritative, visual guide to this very popular lizard species. For their amazing colors and patterns, low maintenance requirements, longevity, and attractive appearance, crested geckos have captured the fancy of hobbyists. Crested Geckos provides guidelines for keepers who wish to select a crested gecko to add to their vivarium and to maintain their pet in excellent health and condition. Author Philippe de Vosjoli provides an introduction to crested gecko, including information about purchasing a healthy pet, handling, heating and housing, water and feeding, life cycle and sexing, and breeding. A separate chapter on diseases and disorders provides solid info on the health needs of these rewarding reptiles, including recognizing signs of disease, tail loss and pelvic deformities. The author has also written two chapters devoted to the color of crested geckos, their most alluring feature for many herpetoculturists. The chapters include discussions of color changes (as the gecko matures) and morphs, heavily illustrated with photographs of unusually colored crested geckos. For crested gecko keepers looking to expand their home populations, a chapter on the Rhacodactylus species describes five species with similar requirements despite their significantly different appearances, from the medium-sized knobby-headed gargoyle gecko to the giant Rhacodactylus leachianus.

“A charming book full of erudition and wit” that explores the human impulse to accumulate books (Literary Review).   Jacques Bonnet, a lifelong accumulator of books ancient and modern, lives in a house large enough to accommodate his tens of thousands of volumes, as well as some overspill from the libraries of his friends. While his musings on the habits of collectors from the earliest known libraries are learned, amusing, and instructive, his advice on cataloging may even save lives.   Ranging from classical Greece to contemporary Iceland, from Balzac to Moby-Dick and Google, Phantoms on the Bookshelves is a blend of memoir, history, and love letter that will be a lasting delight for all who treasure books.

Society often questions and ridicules the pace and depth at which we grieve a loss, but especially the loss of a pet. The same pointed questions and hollow phrases are repeated over again, which ultimately create more pain and social withdrawal as we fall short of their expectations.
But there are others who understand that losing a pet is one of the most devastating experiences while the process of mourning has no timeframe. The first step to healing is understanding grief is unique, personal, and necessary. Through emotional validation and shared insight of others who've experienced similar circumstances, there is a community of compassion. Grief may not have a roadmap, but there is hope through the trauma and pain.
Our Stars Still Shine is a collection of heartfelt memoirs from 22 different authors, written in their own words. From across the world, their stories connect them through shared experiences of deep love, pain, and finding life after loss. Read their stories as they recount some of the happiest and most painful moments of being a pet parent.

On January 15, 2009, a US Airways Airbus A320 had just taken off from LaGuardia Airport in New York when a flock of Canada Geese collided with it, destroying both of its engines. Over the next three minutes, the plane's pilot, Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger, managed to glide it to a safe landing in the Hudson River. It was an instant media sensation-the "Miracle on the Hudson"-and Captain Sully was the hero. But how much of the success of this dramatic landing can actually be credited to the genius of the pilot? To what extent is the "miracle" on the Hudson the result of extraordinary-but not widely known, and in some cases quite controversial-advances in aviation and computer technology over the past twenty years? In Fly by Wire, journalist William Langewiesche takes us on a strange and unexpected journey into the fascinating world of advanced aviation. From the testing laboratories where engineers struggle to build a jet engine that can systematically resist bird attacks, through the creation of the A320 in France, to the political and social forces that have sought to minimize the impact of the revolutionary fly-by-wire technology, William Langewiesche assembles the untold stories necessary to truly understand the "miracle" on the Hudson, and makes us question our assumptions about human beings in modern aviation.
