"Before my version begins to fade,
Let me relieve what happened today.
Today was not a lifetime of discrimination and shame,
But of celebration as a black man living in Ukraine."
    - culled from the EPIGRAPH
    A brave and explorative Artisan
Calm exterior but he was born a warrior
A Leon not bothered about territory
    A Leon who hunted alone.
And a Leon who hurt alone.
With a free prefrontal cortex, he came prepared for learning...
And learn he did, as his memory campus would get soiled with complex realities.
In my first anatomy tour, all I saw were dry cadavers,
But by the end of my tenure, I saw my own fresh blood.
No tribal marks but you can tell he started out with an Afro.
And in this foreign soil, explorations were his special dish.
To-and-fro he evolved... and no, he didn't hail from the safari.
From a genial ark but he always kept his wits about him.
And when he stepped out, he was like a fresh aphrodisiac.
Through his eyes, you could hear all of his favorite tunes.
Black vanilla at his core as he had a thing for interfacing.
    General with a stylus brush,
Hankie forever in the back pocket.
Like his paws, his heart appears four-chambered,
But on closer inspection, you see a fifth chamber a short distance away from the rest.
A blind Cub walking in the midst of hyenas,
With lesions so deep, they suffocated him where it hurt most.
The pages are filled with art and expression,
As I relive this once-in-a-lifetime experience...
Which shaped me into the man I am today.

She faced heartbreak, loss, and uncertainty, yet each challenge became fertile ground for wisdom, compassion, and service. Told with luminous honesty, her journey reveals how the darkest moments can blossom into light. Few people personified the advancements, abilities, and tactical adeptness of the Luftwaffe like Hans-Ulrich Rudel, the most successful dive bomber in the history of warfare. Like hundreds of millions of others born in the early 20th century, his life was shaped by the Second World War, which started when he was just 23. He was born into and shaped by one of the most brutal and infamous regimes in history, and once indoctrinated, he fought determinedly and with real commitment in support of that regime. He flew over 2,500 combat missions, reportedly destroying over 500 Soviet tanks, 170 artillery pieces, 800 other vehicles, and a battleship on the way to becoming the highest-decorated Nazi soldier of World War II, receiving the Knight’s Cross with Golden Oak Leaves, Swords, and Diamonds. He was shot down, or crash landed, multiple times, and even after having reportedly been told by Hitler to stop flying on several occasions, he insisted on returning to the front to fight with his comrades. He lost a leg to gunfire in early 1945 but carried on with his combat missions despite the pain and the practical difficulties of flying with one leg. There is no denying his bravery, however unpleasant the cause for which he fought.
Hans-Ulrich Rudel is therefore a challenging character to analyze. His autobiography, Stuka Pilot, was originally entitled Trotzdem (“In spite of everything”), pointing strongly to his continuing support, post-war, for the Nazi ideology. But his book remains a detailed, fascinating, largely credible (and mostly ideology-free) account of his wartime experiences, even as his final pages include references to his proud insistence on performing the Nazi salute in front of the American soldiers who had taken him prisoner and who were providing medical care to his amputated stump.

For more than half a century, James Hamilton has been an active participant and an inside observer of some of the most consequential moments in modern US history. He has been involved in investigations concerning Watergate, the Kennedy assassination, "Debategate," the Keating Five, the Clinton impeachment, Vince Foster's suicide, the Valerie Plame affair, Benghazi, and the Major League Baseball steroids scandal.

Advocate discusses the travails of prominent politicians and other well-known individuals, focusing particularly on high-profile congressional and other investigations. Credited with developing the modern system for vetting Democratic vice-presidential candidates, Hamilton recounts his extensive vetting of vice-presidential, cabinet, and Supreme Court candidates—including Joe Biden, John Edwards, and Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

Much more than a memoir from a seasoned lawyer, Advocate is a richly detailed history of some of the most sensational and controversial events in Washington politics over the past fifty years. By sharing information and insights known only to him, Hamilton fills in the gaps of historical events while advising the public on lessons that can be learned from the past. Anyone interested in the uniquely American intermingling of law and politics will find this an engaging book.
