Synopsis

Desolation's Abomination – The Antichrist will demand worship from everyone on the planet (Rev. 13). This is the abomination that will bring about enormous desolation.

This image will be given the ability to breathe and speak by a demon (Rev. 13:14-15). When the Antichrist places this idol in the Jerusalem temple, he will claim to be God. Without worshiping the Antichrist in front of this image, no one will be able to purchase or trade (Rev. 13:16-18). Those who resist will be hunted down as state criminals and face martyrdom.

The abomination of desolation system, which will mobilize and finance the Antichrist's global worship movement (Rev. 13:13-18), will include the image of the Beast and the mark of the Beast. Antichrist's adherents will be mobilized by the Beast's visage, and those who resist will be punished. The Beast's mark will offer financial support for the Antichrist's worship movement while punishing those who refuse.

The word "advent" comes from the Latin word adventus, which meaning "arrival," "coming," or "presence." Both the first and second comings of Jesus are referred to as the first and second advent.

The biblical story begins and ends with God as king. Human beings rebel, however, rather than fulfilling their royal calling to rule creation on behalf of their Sovereign—and the world became enslaved to the rule of a dark, serpentine lord.
In this volume of IVP Academic's Essential Studies in Biblical Theology, Stephen Dempster traces the themes of kingship and kingdom throughout Scripture, illuminating the challenges, pain, and ultimate hope that the Bible offers. The story of God's kingship is ultimately the fulfillment of a promise, a promise to restore the rightful rule of humanity over creation by defeating sin and death and to establish a world of peace and justice.
    About the Series
Essential Studies in Biblical Theology (ESBT), edited by Benjamin L. Gladd and L. Michael Morales, explore the central or essential themes of the Bible's grand storyline. Taking cues from Genesis 1–3, authors trace the presence of these themes throughout the entire sweep of redemptive history. Written for students, church leaders, and laypeople, the ESBT offers an accessible yet rich introduction to biblical theology.

Follow your heart. You do you. You are enough. We take these slogans for granted, but what if this path to personal happiness leads to a dead end? In Rethink Your Self, Trevin Wax encourages you to rethink some of our society’s most common assumptions about identity and the road to happiness. Most people define their identity and purpose by first looking in (to their desires), then looking around (to express their uniqueness), and finally - maybe - looking up (to add a spiritual dimension to life). Rethink Your Self proposes a counterintuitive approach: looking up before looking in. It's only when we look up to learn who we were created to be that we discover our true purpose and become our truest selves.

Ministry comes with many weighty responsibilities. Ministry leaders are called to teach, serve, and lead. But in leading those under their care, there comes a moment when they recognize the future leaders under their leadership. With this recognition comes an all too familiar question: What comes next? In Calling Out the Called, Scott Pace and Shane Pruitt answer this question by giving direction, encouragement, and a charge for ministry leaders to recognize the future leaders in their midst and do what needs to be done for the future of ministry: the calling out of the called.
