Synopsis

I'VE ALWAYS been captivated by the narrative of Cain and Abel, Adam and Eve's first two sons.

It's possible they were twins. Eve, according to the Bible, conceived twice and delivered twice.

Now Adam recognized Eve as his wife, and she conceived and bore Cain, declaring, "I have obtained a man from the Lord." Then she carried his brother Abel one more (Gen. 4:1-2).

They may have had similar appearances, but they pursued two different careers.

Cain was a tiller of the ground, while Abel was a sheep keeper (Gen. 4:2).

It was only natural that the children were taught the notion of giving presents to the Lord after what their parents had gone through.

Is it possible to be a Christian and a nurse at the same time?
When I first started out in my calling as a nurse, I thought the answer to that question was an easy "yes," but then as I walked the long halls of the hospital, I started to have questions:Is it ever okay to pray for a patient? Why do I feel so awkward asking for a chaplain? When death is real, does heaven have a place in the hospital?
I tried to find resources written by other Christian medical professionals to help me, but all I ever heard were statements on ethics and the legal repercussions of bringing "coercive" faith to the bedside.
Then I faced death myself in an ICU bed and learned that a lot of my fears were irrelevant in the Presence of the living God. And with that realization, I began to learn how God could make me a Christian and a nurse at the same time.
Facing death in an ICU bed is a high-risk education not everyone can afford, so I've collected the lessons learned during my journey in this book. These spiritual case studies can be used to help nurses bring their faith to work.
Discussion Questions included for small group study or personal growth.

What was the apostle Paul's relationship to Judaism? How did he view the Jewish law? How did he understand the gospel of Jesus's messiahship relative to both ethnic Jews and gentiles? These remain perennial questions both to New Testament scholars and to all serious Bible readers.

Respected New Testament scholar Matthew Thiessen offers an important contribution to this discussion. A Jewish Paul is an accessible introduction that situates Paul clearly within first-century Judaism, not opposed to it. Thiessen argues for a more historically plausible reading of Paul. Paul did not reject Judaism or the Jewish law but believed he was living in the last days, when Israel's Messiah would deliver the nations from sin and death. Paul saw himself as an envoy to the nations, desiring to introduce them to the Messiah and his life-giving, life-transforming Spirit.

This new contribution to Pauline studies will benefit professors, students, and scholars of the New Testament as well as pastors and lay listeners.

Will all be offered salvation? What did early Christians teach? Does the Bible show that Jesus came to save more than a few? Is salvation available when God decides? Will God’s will be done? Are the only ones saved now are those who accept the call now? Will God forgive what the blind could not see? The Bible clearly teaches that those gentiles who have been subject to condemnation will have an opportunity for salvation. But will some few will intentionally reject God’s generous offer? If so, what happens to them? How can all Israel be saved? The Apostle Peter said that all the prophets spoke about apocatastasis—have you examined the hundreds of scriptures that support this? Despite claiming sola Scriptura, Protestants generally oppose Apokatastasis. Roman Catholics claim eternal torment for most, but the Eastern Orthodox and Church of God teach differently. What is the truth about God’s plan of salvation that few today understand?

Award-Winning Author Rebecca McLaughlin Explores Who Jesus Really Is in This Follow-Up to Confronting Christianity
Jesus is the most famous human being in all of history. But while many people have a basic sketch of Jesus in their minds, comparatively few have taken time to read the four biographies of his life in the New Testament Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.
In Confronting Jesus, Rebecca McLaughlin shares important biblical context to help all readers see why the Gospels should be taken seriously as historical documents. Exploring eyewitness testimony about Jesus, McLaughlin points to him as a first-century Jewish man who is the Son of God, King of the Jews, mighty healer, greatest teacher, lover of sinners, suffering servant, perfect sacrifice, and universal Lord. This follow-up to her first book, Confronting Christianity, helps readers understand the message of the Gospels and explore who Jesus really is. Individuals and groups can work through the ebook together with the Confronting Jesus Study Guide and the Confronting Jesus Video Lectures.

The Thoughts of the Cure D'Ars is the most beautiful, simple, and inspiring statement of practical Catholic wisdom that most of us will likely ever read. Consisting of short, profound sayings, almost comparable to the proverbs in the Bible, this little book reflects perfectly its simple but holy author, St. John Vianney.
Jean-Marie Baptiste Vianney (1786-1859) was popularly known as the Cure of Ars, or the parish priest of Ars, which is a small farmer's village north of Lyons, France. Though of poor education, the Cure of Ars was very intelligent and well versed in the Faith. He rose to great sanctity, converted thousands of souls to Christ, became famous throughout the Catholic world, and in 1929 Pope Pius XI proclaimed him "Patron Saint of Parish Priests" worldwide! This little book is a sample of his sanctity and wisdom.
