Synopsis

This is an amazing story—and, by design, it is almost entirely unknown. As we begin to grapple with what the Afghan War meant—in books and in film AND in the ongoing governmental hearings regarding the evacuation—journalist and historian Paul Kix is setting out to write the book that begins to make sense of the war that was our country’s response to 9/11, the event that defined the lives of a generation. Through the story of the Rauf brothers, he is writing a book that is taut and exciting but one that aspires to take the war’s measure in the way that books like A BRIGHT AND SHINING LIE or DISPATCHES or THE THINGS THEY CARRIED aspired to define the Vietnam War and became classics of the American canon.
