Synopsis

The only thing worse than
waking up with the hangover from hell
is waking up with a hangover in hell
When literary reprobate Foster James wakes up in a strange country house, he assumes he's been consigned to rehab (yet again). But when he gets punched in the face by Ernest Hemingway, he realises there's something different about this place...
Is Foster dead? Has his less-than-saintly existence finally caught up with him? After a hostile group therapy session with Hunter S. Thompson, William Burroughs and Samuel Taylor Coleridge, it seems likely. But he still feels alive, especially after he gets laid by Dorothy Parker.
When he discovers that the two enigmatic doctors who run the institution are being torn apart by a thwarted love affair, he and the other writers must work together to save something bigger than their own gigantic egos.
Set in a place that's part Priory, part Purgatory, Dead Writers in Rehab is a darkly funny tale about the strange and terrible entanglement of creativity and addiction, told by a charming, selfish bastard.

The History of England from Henry IV to Charles I, by a partial, prejudiced, and ignorant historian. N.B. There will be very few dates in this History! Jane Austen wrote The History of England in 1791, at the age of just 15, as a satirical parody of 18th-century historical textbooks. It pokes fun at the apparent impartiality of contemporary historians and contains more opinions about the monarchs' relative characters than any facts or dates. The History of England was not published until 1922, more than a century after Austen's death.

Main Street by Sinclair Lewis is a satirical portrayal of small-town America, focusing on Carol Kennicott, an ambitious young woman who moves to the fictional town of Gopher Prairie with her husband, Dr. Will Kennicott. Dreaming of cultural reform and progress, Carol quickly becomes disillusioned by the town’s resistance to change, its narrow-mindedness, and its suffocating conformity. Her efforts to bring art, literature, and modern ideas to the community are met with scorn and apathy. Through Carol’s struggles, Lewis critiques the monotony and conservatism of rural life while exploring themes of individuality, idealism, and the tension between tradition and innovation. Though Carol eventually leaves Gopher Prairie, she returns, realizing that true change requires persistence and patience. A poignant blend of humor and social commentary, Main Street challenges readers to reflect on the complexities of human ambition and societal norms, offering a timeless examination of the clash between personal dreams and communal expectations.

Ever wish you had an immediate snappy comeback or a perfect putdown? We all have, only to later think of what we could— or should— have said. Then who better to call on than Shakespeare, who mastered the art of dramatic conflict with rapier wit rather than swordplay? This audiobook is an entertaining and witty collection of some of the most cutting jeers and outrageous affronts ever spoken. Never miss an opportunity for a well-aimed insult by borrowing from the Bard. With access to Shakespeare's witty world of words, this is the ideal resource for those moments you don't want to let slip by without comment.
