Beschreibung

World Englishes is a rapidly growing field of study that explores the many ways in which the English language is used around the world. This comprehensive introduction provides a thorough overview of the history, sociolinguistics, and global impact of World Englishes.

In this book, readers will learn about the spread of English across the globe, from its humble beginnings in the British Isles to its current status as the most widely spoken language in the world. They will also explore the role of British colonialism in the expansion of English, as well as the impact of Americanization on the language. The book also discusses the rise of regional Englishes, such as Indian English, Singapore English, and Nigerian English.

The book then turns its attention to the sociolinguistics of World Englishes. It examines variation in pronunciation, grammar, and vocabulary, as well as the role of social class and identity in language variation. It also discusses the impact of globalization on language variation and the challenges of teaching English as a second language.

The book also explores the role of World Englishes in various domains, including education, literature, media, business, law, science and technology, and the arts. It examines the challenges of translating World Englishes texts and the impact of World Englishes on global culture. It also discusses the future of World Englishes and the role it will play in the 21st century.

Finally, the book concludes by discussing the implications of World Englishes for language policy and planning. It considers the challenges of maintaining English language standards in a globalized world and the need for language policies that are inclusive and supportive of linguistic diversity.

With its comprehensive coverage of the history, sociolinguistics, and global impact of World Englishes, this book is an essential resource for students, scholars, and anyone interested in the future of the English language.

We broke our new series on learning Romanian down into different learning stages. Start with the “Lower Beginner” books followed by the “Beginner” and “Upper Beginner” books. Next, progress to the “Intermediate” series, then test and reinforce your knowledge with the “Conversations” series.
This audiobook is divided into units. While it provides different learning patterns and accommodates various needs, this audiobook focuses on helping you improve your ability to understand, speak, and memorise Romanian. The sample will give you a taste of what you can look forward to.
In Unit 1 you will hear Romanian decoded with each syllable spoken very slowly and clearly with repetition. Immediately before each sentence is spoken, you will hear the translation, so you will always understand what is being said. Unit 2 focuses solely on increasing your listening ability, which will improve your abilities to engage in dialogue with a native Romanian speaker. This chapter requires you to listen very carefully to nuances in the language.
By Unit 3 you will already notice progress in your abilities to speak and understand Romanian. The spoken translation is followed by two repetitions in Romanian at a completely natural speed. While you are learning to process naturally spoken Romanian, Units 3 and 4 will help you memorise new vocabulary and full sentences. In Unit 5 you can test yourself on how much you have learned. If you are having difficulties, we suggest you revisit the listening, speaking, or memorisation section of Units 1, 2 3 or 4, according to what you need more help with.
