Synopsis

In the realm of medical ethics, few issues are as contentious and soul-searching as the question of withholding treatment from severely handicapped newborns. This heart-wrenching dilemma thrusts parents, doctors, and society at large into a maelstrom of ethical, legal, and moral quandaries.

This thought-provoking book delves into the complexities of these life-altering decisions, exploring the diverse perspectives of those intimately affected by this profound issue. Through poignant narratives and in-depth analysis, it illuminates the ethical tightrope that must be navigated in these uncharted waters, where the sanctity of life collides with the potential for profound suffering.

Unraveling the intricate tapestry of factors that shape these momentous choices, the book provides a comprehensive examination of the ethical, legal, social, and economic implications of withholding treatment. It delves into the anguished cries of parents grappling with the reality of raising a child with severe disabilities, the sobering deliberations of medical professionals bound by their Hippocratic Oath, and the role of society in supporting families facing these extraordinary challenges.

With compassion and empathy, the book explores the emotional toll that this profound issue exacts on parents, siblings, and extended family members. It unpacks the intricate tapestry of emotions that intertwine in this crucible of grief, loss, and acceptance, illuminating the coping mechanisms and support systems that can provide solace and strength during these turbulent times.

Ultimately, this book serves as a clarion call for understanding, empathy, and a renewed commitment to supporting families facing these extraordinary challenges. It implores us to confront our own mortality and grapple with the profound questions that arise when life and death hang precariously in the balance.

A must-read for anyone seeking a deeper understanding of this complex and multifaceted issue, this book offers a profound exploration of the ethical, legal, and emotional dimensions of withholding treatment from severely handicapped newborns, leaving readers with a renewed appreciation for the sanctity of life and the resilience of the human spirit.

Students learning modern foreign languages often comment that it is just too hard to learn, and remember, all of vocabulary presented to them. Yes, there is a lot of content that needs to be covered, and a lot of vocabulary that needs to be learned. But there is a way of making this process engaging and motivating. Language lessons needn't be full of grammar worksheets, endless drilling and rote learning lists of vocabulary.
Learning languages isn't always fun and games. But these aren't games; they are fun learning activities. And they can help revolutionise language teaching; enabling teachers to authoritatively impart knowledge while fostering a thirst for knowledge and love of learning in their students.
First, the Vocab Fun Learning Activities (VFLAs) learn the vocabulary in ways which will improve recognition and recall. Then, the Fun Learning Activities use this vocabulary knowledge to build sentences and paragraphs; explore and use this language while keeping the whole class engaged and actively learning. The activities are designed to encourage all students to participate and learn more through enjoyment.
Based on the author's extensive classroom experience, and underpinned by research into how students learn best, each activity comes complete with a detailed explanation and plenty of ideas for variations, differentiations and extensions. The activities come with example vocabulary lists in French, German and Spanish as a starting point, which are all available for download via a link provided in the book. However, the activities will work effectively in any language and with any vocabulary list of the teacher's choosing, and can be adapted to suit every topic, learning objective and age range.
Discover ready to use activities which will make for outstanding lessons in every class and ensure engagement, motivation, rapport, progress and attainment over time.

Discover the history of Ancient Iran that spans from Iran’s mysterious origins to the Islamic conquest.
Ancient Persia conjures images of extravagant palaces, beautiful gardens, mighty armies, and all-powerful kings, queens, and princes. The beginnings of Iranian antiquity are enigmatic, but from the cradle of the western Zagros Mountains came the greatest empires the world has ever known. The Elamites, Medians, Achaemenids, Parthians, and Sassanids all sprang from interlinked cultural origins that could trace their roots back through each successive empire.
The ancient Persians experienced cultural mingling over time, such as the Mediterranean Hellenistic era, which brought the Greeks and Romans. Much later, the Muslim Arabs disrupted the last of the ancient empires and imprinted their new religion, Islam, across Greater Iran. But the Persian culture held firm for millennia, and after five thousand years of imperial conquests, Iran retains the ancient identity of its first people.
In this audiobook, you will learn: More about the prehistoric ancestors of Iran and their tribal originsWhat is meant by “Persia” and how this changed over timeAbout the mighty Iranian Empires that dominated half of EurasiaThe influence of foreign empires and why they didn’t lastHow the Persian kings impacted major world religionsThe complexity of Iranian culture and why it survived for millenniaHow ancient causes have inspired Iran’s national identity
