I want to clarify that this book is not based on my personal experience but rather on a close friend who went through the divorce process. I was there with him at every step, and he shared his story. I have described the whole suffering from his narrative, and every incident and feeling recounted in this book is based on his actual emotions and experiences during those events. Divorce is a challenging and emotional process that can overwhelm anyone involved. My friend’s experience highlights the difficulties faced by both parties and the impact it has on their lives. As a feminist, I believe in equal rights for all, regardless of gender, and this book aims to shed light on the issues faced by both men and women during the divorce process.

Can the strength accumulated over a lifetime of losses be enough to cope with a daughter’s death?
What was it like growing up as a smart girl in a world of 1970s suburban conformity? What family secrets were hidden behind the vertical blinds and sliding glass doors, or swept under the orange shag carpets? Is it possible to move from married mother-of-two to lesbian feminist activist without passing heartache?
In her bittersweet memoir, Mary Fairhurst Breen sketches scenes from a life darkened by four generations of mental illness and addiction. Despite the odds, Mary’s sense of humor and willingness to practice “radical acceptance” see her through the chaos to a life full of friends, art, and the joys of being a grandmother. Ultimately, she must face her greatest challenge of all when her daughter becomes one of the tens of thousands of people every year to die of opioid poisoning. This is a journey of awakening and activism, and a portrait of a life to be celebrated in all its complexity.

This work is the result of a great deal of reflection on the rich experiences of more than 50 years in Ministry. I recognize how many wonderful encounters I have had "AlongThe Way." As I reflect in my introduction, I sensed what Michelangelo felt when he observed a block of marble and had to “ release” David. I knew that if I had to "released” both the joy and challenges, ups and downs, questions and answers that comprise my many years of Priestly service. I attempted to do so for two reasons: to share the lessons that I both learned and taught because I feel that they resonated with The Human Experience With which others could identify, and as a source of encouragement two others to "tell their stories" and the richness that flows from them.
Through autobiographical sketches, a journey through various assignments, pastoral vignettes (mostly humorous but some very serious stories), I tried to "connect the dots" as it were between God and the experience of Our Lives. In focusing on various people whom I might have encountered I reflect on the value of relationships and how we are shaped by them. In my final section "essays" I attempt to apply my experiences and the wisdom gained from those experiences to some contemporary issues and common human situations that affect us all.

What began that night shocked Duke Universityand Durham, North Carolina. And it continues to captivate the nation: the Duke lacrosse team members‘ alleged rape of an African-American stripper and the unraveling of the case against them. In this ever-deepening American tragedy, Stuart Taylor Jr. and KC Johnson argue, law enforcement, a campaigning prosecutor, biased journalists, and left-leaning academics repeatedly refused to pursue the truth while scapegoats were made of these young men, recklessly tarnishing their lives. The story harbors multiple dramas, including the actions of a DA running for office; the inappropriate charges that should have been apparent to academics at Duke many months ago; the local and national media, who were so slow to take account of the publicly available evidence; and the appalling reactions of law enforcement, academia, and many black leaders.Until Proven Innocent is the only book that covers all five aspects of the case (personal, legal, academic, political, and media) in a comprehensive fashion. Based on interviews with key members of the defense team, many of the unindicted lacrosse players, and Duke officials, it is also the only book to include interviews with all three of the defendants, their families, and their legal teams. Taylor and Johnson‘s coverage of the Duke case was the earliest, most honest, and most comprehensive in the country, and here they take the idiocies and dishonesty of right- and left-wingers alike head on, shedding new light on the dangers of rogue prosecutors and police and a cultural tendency toward media-fueled travesties of justice. The context of the Duke case has vast import and contains likable heroes, unfortunate victims, and memorable villains—and in its full telling, it is captivating nonfiction with broad political, racial, and cultural relevance to our times.

Lieutenant General James Gavin, commander of the 82nd Airborne Division during WWII, is one of the best-known figures of the war. Beginning as the commander of the 505th Parachute Combat Team that spearheaded the American assault on Sicily in July 1943, Gavin advanced to division command and finally command of US forces in Berlin. He kept a wartime diary that starts in April 1943, as the unit was preparing to go to northern Africa and continues through to his final entry on September 1, 1945, during the occupation of Berlin.

During the war years, Gavin came into close contact with virtually all the leading airborne commanders and many others who would advance to the top levels of Army leadership. His diary includes observations on fellow military and political leaders, army operations, and the general's personal life. Gavin was an officer who led by example: on four combat jumps, he was the first man out the door.

For decades, Gavin kept the existence of the journal a secret; the general's family discovered it among his belongings after his death. Editor Lewis "Bob" Sorley has worked closely with the Gavin family and the Army Heritage Center to prepare the diary for publication. His edited and annotated version includes a prologue and epilogue to frame the entries within the wider scope of the general's life.
