World War II was the largest and most violent armed conflict in the history of mankind. Highly relevant today, World War II has much to teach us, not only about the profession of arms, but also about military preparedness, global strategy, and combined operations in the coalition war against fascism. This book follows military operations in Italy from 5 April to 8 May 1945.
The Allies had begun their invasion of the Italian mainland in early September 1943 with the promise of a quick drive north, up the "soft underbelly" of Europe and into the German heartland. Yet nineteen months later, after hard fighting up the rugged mountainous spine of the narrow Italian peninsula, such goals still eluded the Anglo-American military leaders of the Mediterranean Theater. To be sure, long before April 1945 Rome had fallen to Allied arms and fascist Italy had been knocked almost completely out of the war. But in the interval France had also been liberated, and the Soviet Union had reclaimed almost all of its territory previously conquered by the once invincible German war machine.
Italy had in fact become a sideshow, a secondary theater, since the spring of 1944 when the western Allies had shifted their military resources north to support the buildup and execution of Operation OVERLORD, the invasion of Normandy. After that, there had been no turning back on the Anglo-American side, with its main effort directed east through the northern European plains. Thus, by April Germany was besieged on three sides, although the Allied forces in the south, those strung out along the northern Apennines overlooking the Po Valley, were now the farthest away from the tottering Third Reich. British Prime Minister Winston Churchill continued to strongly support an advance from northern Italy into the Balkans and southern Germany. However, the ability of the Italian-based Allied armies to sustain such an effort with minimal support in men and materiel seemed problematic…

Foreword INDIES Book of the Year Award Finalist
A Comprehensive Look at Women Who Built the Early Church
Women were there. For centuries, discussions of early Christianity have focused on male leaders in the church. But there is ample evidence right in the New Testament that women were actively involved in ministry, at the frontier of the gospel mission, and as respected leaders.
Nijay Gupta calls us to bring these women out of the shadows by shining light on their many inspiring contributions to the planting, growth, and health of the first Christian churches. He sets the context by exploring the lives of first-century women and addressing common misconceptions, then focuses on the women leaders of the early churches as revealed in Paul's writings. We discover the major roles of people such as:

    - Phoebe, Paul's trusted coworker
    - Prisca, strategic leader and expert teacher
    - Junia, courageous apostle
    - Nympha, representative of countless lesser-known figures
When we understand the world in which Jesus and his followers lived and what the New Testament actually attests about women in the churches, it becomes clear that women were active participants and trusted leaders all along. They were welcomed by Paul and other apostles, were equipped and trained for ministry leadership, instructed others, traveled long distances, were imprisoned—and once in a while became heroes and giants.
The New Testament writers tell their stories. It's time for the church to retell them, again and again.

Australia is often seen as a young nation, defined by British colonization and modern settlement—but its story stretches far beyond European arrival. Home to one of the world’s oldest continuous human cultures, Australia’s Indigenous peoples developed sophisticated societies, laws, and land management practices over thousands of years, long before the First Fleet arrived in 1788. This book explores Australia in its complexity. From its ancient human past to the upheavals of colonization, the imposition of terra nullius, and the formation of a modern nation, it examines how continuity and change have shaped the continent. Drawing on historical records, it presents a balanced and accessible account of achievement, adaptation, resistance, and survival. For anyone seeking to understand not just the myths of Australia, but its real history—from the deep past to the present—this concise book reveals a land and a people as untamed, proud, and powerful as the continent itself.

War Transformed: The Future of Twenty-First-Century Great Power Competition and Conflict provides insights for those involved in the design of military strategy, and the forces that must execute that strategy. Emphasizing the impacts of technology, new era strategic competition, demography, and climate change, Mick Ryan uses historical and contemporary anecdotes to highlight key challenges faced by nations in a new era of great power rivalry. Just as previous industrial revolutions have advanced societies, the nascent fourth industrial revolution will have a similar impact on how humans fight, compete, and build military power in the twenty-first century.

War Transformed seeks to provide a preview of the shape of war and competition in the twenty-first century. Ryan examines both the shifting character of war and its enduring nature. He proposes important trends in warfare that will shape all aspects of human competition and conflict in the coming decades.

Competing and engaging in combat in this new era involves evolved strategies and warfighting concepts. As the competitive environment and potential battlefields continue to change, conceptions of combat, competition, and conflict must also evolve. Mick Ryan makes the case for transforming how Western military institutions view war in this century.
