Beschreibung

In the heart of America, a sinister plot unfolds, captivating the nation in a chilling game of terror. The Hostage Horror is a gripping tale that explores the darkest depths of human nature, delving into the twisted mind of a killer who revels in the spotlight of his own macabre theater.

As the ominous phone call pierces the airwaves, a chilling promise of death sets the stage for a horrifying spectacle. The killer, a cunning predator driven by a perverse desire for notoriety, carefully selects his victims, ordinary individuals whose lives will become pawns in his deadly game. One by one, he lures them into his clutches, holding them captive in a secret location, their fates hanging precariously in the balance.

With each passing hour, the tension mounts, as the nation watches in horrified anticipation. The killer revels in the spotlight, taunting authorities and captivating audiences with his chilling monologues. He promises gruesome spectacles, macabre performances of death that will leave an indelible mark on the American psyche. The Hostage Horror is not just a crime; it is a twisted spectacle, a morbid theater of human suffering designed to captivate and terrify.

As law enforcement agencies race against time to track down the elusive killer and save the innocent lives hanging in the balance, the Hostage Horror becomes a test of wills, a battle of wits between a cunning predator and a determined nation united in its pursuit of justice. With each passing hour, the nation holds its breath, praying for a swift resolution to the nightmare.

The Hostage Horror is a stark reminder of the fragility of life, the unpredictable nature of evil. It is a story of courage and resilience, of the indomitable spirit of those who face unimaginable horrors and emerge from the darkness with their humanity intact. It is a tale that will be told for generations to come, a haunting reminder of the darkness that lurks within the human heart.

In the end, the Hostage Horror is a story of survival, of hope triumphing over despair, and of the unyielding spirit of a nation that refused to be broken. It is a story that will stay with you long after you finish reading the final page, a testament to the resilience of the human spirit in the face of unimaginable darkness.

The 3:15 train left Polk County on September 2, 1930, carrying a most extraordinary passenger. Eugene H “Gene” Brock, a genius of the type about whom astounding stories are told, was leaving East Texas – one of the country’s most backward impoverished areas.
His destination – Texas Technological College.
What Gene didn’t know was one day he would achieve a unique status, one attained by only a most select few – as an internationally acknowledge expert in two of science’s newest fields: nuclear energy relating to fission and the bomb that ended World War II, and high-powered computer systems – the likes of which put a man on the Moon.
Gene’s story is brought to life by his son, Ronald, and has humble beginnings in Texas’ “Big Thicket.” It follows the young Gene, born a fifth-generation progeny of East Texas subsistence farmers, and the hardships he endured through the Great Depression which kept him homeless for much of the time he was earning his degree in mathematics and physics.
A burning desire to master new challenges led Gene to Los Alamos and a pivotal role in redesigning the Manhattan Project’s atomic bomb. But one scientific challenge wasn’t enough. Gene became an acknowledged expert when computers evolved into another scientific discovery of significant importance.
Once again sought after by the federal government, Gene received a congressional appointment to serve as Director of Computation and Analysis in NASA’s manned spaceflight project – the project that enabled Neil Armstrong’s walk on the Moon.
As a fitting epilogue to his father’s extraordinary story, the author tells of his own key role in another scientific adaptation when the technology of the World Wide Web was introduced and became known across the globe as the Internet. And the term “startup company” became the scientific phenomenon of the 1990s.

An intimate retelling of Lyndon B. Johnson's politics and presidency by one of his closest advisors.

Horace Busby was one of LBJ's most trusted advisors; their close working and personal relationship spanned twenty years. In The Thirty-First of March he offers an indelible portrait of a president and a presidency at a time of crisis. From the aftereffects of the Kennedy assassination, when Busby was asked by the newly sworn-in president to sit by his bedside during his first troubled nights in office, to the concerns that defined the Great Society—civil rights, the economy, social legislation, housing, and the Vietnam War—Busby not only articulated and refined Johnson's political thinking, he also helped shape the most ambitious, far-reaching legislative agenda since FDR's New Deal.

Here is Johnson the politician, Johnson the schemer, Johnson who advised against JFK's choice of an open limousine that fateful day in Dallas, and Johnson the father, sickened by the deaths of young men fighting and dying in Vietnam on his orders. The Thirty-first of March is a rare glimpse into the inner sanctum of Johnson's presidency, as seen through the eyes of one of the people who understood him best.

Stories of heroism, exploration, and sacrifice -- including Apollo XIII and Scott of the Antarctic -- that inspire boys to be courageous, selfless, and open to adventure
Tales of brave and selfless deeds used to be part of every boy’s education. We grew up sharing stories with our fathers, uncles, and grandfathers of how other men had lived their lives, met their challenges, reached their goals, and faced their deaths. Becoming a man was about comradeship and standing by your friends whatever the circumstances. And it meant that sometimes it was more important to die a hero than live a coward’s life. Through Neil Oliver’s vivid, stirring accounts we can rediscover the stories that inspire men to perform acts greater than themselves. These are the epics that we should all know by heart; the tales of courage, endurance, and sacrifice that made men out of boys.

Amazing Tales for Making Men Out of Boys is packed with classic stories of courage and heroism from around the world and includes four stories especially for the American edition: Omaha Beach, June 6th 1944; The Alamo; The Civil War Battle of Shilo; and The Revolutionary War Sea Battle of John Paul Jones and the Bon Homme Richard.
