Beschreibung

"Structural Sociology in Modern Times" is a groundbreaking exploration of the theoretical underpinnings and contemporary applications of structural sociology. This comprehensive book provides a deeper understanding of the intricate relationship between individuals and the structures that shape their lives.

Delving into the evolution of sociological thought, the book examines the seminal contributions of structuralism, functionalism, and interpretive sociology. It introduces the concept of structuration, highlighting the reciprocal relationship between social structures and human agency. By recognizing the significance of time-space relations, the book sheds new light on how social systems are constructed, maintained, and transformed.

Moving beyond theoretical abstractions, the book examines the concrete manifestations of social structures in various domains of human experience. It explores the interplay of power, domination, and resistance, unraveling the mechanisms through which inequalities are perpetuated and challenged. It investigates the dynamics of social stratification, examining how social class, gender, race, and ethnicity shape life chances and opportunities.

Furthermore, the book explores the intricate relationship between culture and society, examining how cultural beliefs, values, and practices influence social behavior and shape social institutions. It delves into the processes of social change, analyzing how social movements and globalization are reshaping the landscape of societies around the world.

Throughout its exploration, the book emphasizes the significance of social theory in understanding and addressing the challenges facing contemporary societies. It argues for a renewed engagement with theory as a tool for social transformation, capable of informing policies and practices that promote justice, equality, and human flourishing.

As readers embark on this intellectual journey, they will gain a deeper understanding of the complexities of social life and the forces that shape it. "Structural Sociology in Modern Times" stands as an invaluable resource for students, scholars, and anyone seeking to navigate the complexities of the social world.

Individuals who decide to take up learning about the Old Testament of the Bible are immediately faced with the difficult proposition of identifying the various peoples that the Hebrews met and sometimes came into conflict with when they entered the territory that eventually became Israel. The Moabites and Edomites were just two of the many Canaanite groups that the Hebrews dealt with, often violently, but there were dozens of other Canaanite groups, which were all for the most part identified through the names of their respective cities. In fact, before the Hebrews established a kingdom and before the Phoenicians colonized much of the Mediterranean, the Canaanites were the most important group in the Levant for much of the Bronze Age and into the early Iron Age. Although the Canaanites never created a unified nation-state or kingdom, their importance in the ancient Near East cannot be understated. It was at least partially because of that fact that the Canaanites were unable to resist their larger and more powerful neighbors that the average person today knows so little about their history, but modern studies have revealed that they developed a unique religion that influenced non-Canaanite peoples and continued to be practiced in some form centuries after the Canaanites ceased to be an identifiable people. Furthermore, during the height of the Bronze Age the Canaanites provided important resources to the Egyptian and Hittite Empires and played a key role in the geopolitical game of chess between those two kingdoms. It also goes without saying that the Canaanites were also a factor in the establishment of the Kingdom of Israel, as the battles they lost to the Hebrews later became the foundation of the Jewish kingdom.

Written by Claire Banks and Mick Waters, A Curious Curriculum: Teaching foundation subjects well details the insightful and transformational steps that a school can take towards designing and delivering a rich, rigorous and wide-ranging curriculum.
    Foreword by Mary Myatt.
Rather than being a model curriculum that can be uprooted and planted in any school, the book is a model schools can use to design their own curriculum, one that not only encourages children to be active participants in their own learning, but also to see the benefits of being part of a bigger, wider family of learners.
The authors concentrate on the foundation subjects, particularly history, geography and science but also design and technology (DT) and art and design areas that are often challenging for teachers in primary schools. Subjects are brought together and explored under "big ideas" and, crucially, the emphasis is on avoiding the superficial and trivial and rooting teaching in extending and challenging children.
In A Curious Curriculum, Claire Banks and Mick Waters share the story of one multi-academy trust (MAT) which designed and delivered a shared educational vision, a rationale for excellence in the curriculum, and the resources and support given to help reduce teachers' workload.
Claire and Mick present a clear model both for supporting a group of schools or leading one school, offering a fresh perspective on working on a MAT-wide curriculum, as well as providing a range of snapshot examples of the curriculum in action in the form of documents, plans, photos and the learners' own work. The book shares transferrable lessons from the trust's journey to success, setting out an educational philosophy that pairs pedagogy with a well-structured curriculum designed with learners' best interests at its heart.
All children deserve an engaging, exciting curriculum designed to spark their curiosity, feed their imagination and develop their skills and knowledge. With clear timelines and an honest and transparent dialogue about the challenges and benefits of working together collaboratively and the importance of external expertise, A Curious Curriculum is an essential read for all school leaders.
Suitable for executive leaders, head teachers, curriculum coordinators and subject leaders in primary school settings.

There was not any one entity more central to the Yahwistic Judean religion during the monarchy than the temple of Solomon. It symbolized the presence of YHWH in the nation, as well as his enduring protection of the nation and the Davidic royal throne. Judean worshippers directed their prayers toward the Solomonic temple, and eventually, the Judean prophets and theologians declared that this was the only legitimate location where priests could perform sacrifices and other religious rites for YHWH. Its significance can be seen most clearly in the dramatic cognitive dissonance experienced by the Judeans in Babylonian captivity after the destruction of the temple, which had been so central to their religious conception that they had great difficulty reconciling its destruction with their continued belief in YHWH at all.
Jerusalem was uninhabited for much of the 6th century B.C., and this period is known as the exile to Babylon, and Bible scholars believe that it was during those years that the Jewish people came into contact with several stories and legends that would later be incorporated into their sacred writings. A generation later, Achaemenid Persian Emperor Cyrus the Great allowed the Jews who so wished to return to Jerusalem to rebuild the temple and reestablish their nation.
The reborn country, settled in the province called Yehud Medinata, survived semi-independently, although to a lesser extent than before, until it was again absorbed by the Greek kingdoms that arose after the conquests of Alexander the Great. After that, the Jews remained under the rule of the Hellenistic Seleucids, who ruled their Near Eastern kingdom from Mesopotamia, and occasionally under the rule of the Ptolemies, who reigned from Alexandria, Egypt. Eventually, though, a number of factors led to a Jewish revolt against Seleucid rule that started in 167 B.C. and came to be known as the Maccabean Revolt.
