Beschreibung

Judicial scrutiny is a fundamental feature of modern democracies. It is the power of courts to review and invalidate government actions that are inconsistent with the constitution. This power helps to ensure that the government acts within the limits of its powers and that the rights of citizens are protected.

In this book, we explore the origins, legitimacy, scope, and impact of judicial scrutiny. We examine how judicial scrutiny has been used to protect minority rights, promote accountability and transparency, and strengthen the rule of law. We also consider the challenges facing judicial scrutiny in the 21st century and the potential reforms that could be made to improve its effectiveness.

We compare judicial scrutiny in different countries and examine the lessons that can be learned from comparative judicial scrutiny. We explore the role of judicial scrutiny in promoting social change and economic development, and we consider the relationship between judicial scrutiny and national security.

Finally, we examine the role of judicial scrutiny in promoting the rule of law. We consider the limits of judicial scrutiny and the challenges facing judicial scrutiny in the 21st century. We also explore the potential reforms that could be made to improve the effectiveness of judicial scrutiny.

This book is an essential resource for anyone interested in the role of judicial scrutiny in modern democracies. It is a comprehensive and up-to-date analysis of the origins, legitimacy, scope, and impact of judicial scrutiny. It is also a valuable resource for anyone interested in comparative judicial scrutiny, the role of judicial scrutiny in promoting social change and economic development, and the relationship between judicial scrutiny and national security.

This book is written in a clear and concise style, making it accessible to a wide range of readers. It is also well-researched and documented, making it a valuable resource for scholars and practitioners alike.

We broke our new series on learning Russian down into different learning stages. Start with the "Lower Beginner" books followed by the "Beginner" and "Upper Beginner" books. Next, progress to the "Intermediate" series, then test and reinforce your knowledge with the "Conversations" series.
This audiobook is divided into units. While it provides different learning patterns and accommodates various needs, this audiobook focuses on helping you improve your ability to understand, speak, and memorise Russian.
In Unit 1 you will hear Russian decoded with each syllable spoken very slowly and clearly with repetition. Immediately before each sentence is spoken, you will hear the translation, so you will always understand what is being said.
Unit 2 focuses solely on increasing your listening ability, which will improve your abilities to engage in dialogue with a native Russian speaker. This chapter requires you to listen very carefully to nuances in the language.
By Unit 3 you will already notice progress in your abilities to speak and understand Russian. The spoken translation is followed by two repetitions in Russian at a completely natural speed. While you are learning to process naturally spoken Russian, Units 3 and 4 will help you memorise new vocabulary and full sentences.
In Unit 5 you can test yourself on how much you have learned. If you are having difficulties, we suggest you revisit the listening, speaking, or memorisation section of Units 1, 2 3 or 4, according to what you need more help with.

This book is about understanding how much neurodivergence and masking has unconsciously shaped so many people without them realising. For generations we have not recognised that many people who are highly adapted to a neurotypical world haven't been acknowledged or supported, especially women and girls. It explores the experience of attention divergent and highly sensitive people (often referred to as ADD or ADHD), Autistic people (often referred to as ASD) and people who are both (Dualies), in a non- pathologizing way. It challenges the current use of pathologizing language and explores the intersection of all the other shaping influences on how we make sense of this identity, including trauma, family of origin and overlaps between different types of neurodivergence. It explores the likely evolutionary components of how humans have developed different kinds of brains and attributes and makes suggestions for developing a more inclusive and validating picture of neurodiversity in schools, the workplace, families and friendship groups. Helen draws on her own and her partner's experiences of being neurodivergent, as well as drawing from stories of her friends, family and clients to develop a greater understanding of why it is important to embrace this identity if it applies to you. Helen is a psychologist who has worked with people for forty years. She describes how important it is to realise how masking neurodivergence stops people from realising their full potential, and where embracing it helps personal growth and a positive identity.

Chezare A. Warren chronicles the transition of a cohort of young Black males from Urban Prep Charter Academy for Young Men to their early experiences in higher education. A rich and closely observed account of a mission-driven school and its students, Urban Preparation makes a significant contribution to our understanding of how young males of color can best be served in schools throughout the United States today.

A founding teacher at Urban Prep, Warren offers a detailed exploration of what this single-sex public high school on the South Side of Chicago has managed to accomplish amid profoundly challenging circumstances. He provides a comprehensive portrait of the school—its leaders, teachers, and professional staff; its students; and the community that the school aims to serve—and highlights how preparation for higher education is central to its mission.

Warren focuses on three main goals: to describe Urban Prep's plans and efforts to prepare young Black males for college; to understand how race, community, poverty, and the school contributed, in complex and interrelated ways, to the academic goals of these students; and to offer a wide-ranging set of conclusions about the school environments and conditions that might help young Black males throughout the country succeed in high school and college.

Who do you want to be?
We’ve all heard or asked this question before, yet few of us answer it because identity is not fixed but ever-expanding as we move through life.

Me Power redefines empowerment, encouraging us to tap into our limitless flow of possibility while connecting with others. Embracing this book is the first step to activating your Me Power.
So what are you waiting for?
