Synopsis

In "Empowering Learners: Cultivating a Classroom for Authors and Explorers," we embark on a transformative journey through the landscape of effective teaching and learning. This comprehensive guide unveils the secrets to creating classrooms where students thrive as authors, explorers, and lifelong learners, empowering them to take ownership of their learning journeys and reach their full potential.

At the heart of this book lies the belief that every child possesses an innate desire to learn, to explore, and to create. Our mission is to equip educators with the tools and strategies to nurture these innate abilities, fostering a love of learning that extends beyond the classroom walls. Through engaging storytelling and research-based insights, we delve into the intricacies of creating learning environments that ignite curiosity, promote collaboration, and empower students to become active participants in their own learning.

We unravel the intricacies of the authoring cycle, a cornerstone of effective literacy instruction. Through the cyclical nature of writing, students embark on a journey of self-expression, refining their ideas, and developing a deep appreciation for the written word. We explore the art of inquiry-based learning, placing students at the center of the learning process, encouraging them to ask questions, investigate phenomena, and construct knowledge through hands-on experiences.

Technology, a powerful tool in today's educational landscape, finds its rightful place in our discourse. We examine its judicious integration into the classroom, exploring its potential to enhance engagement, facilitate collaboration, and personalize instruction. However, we also acknowledge the ethical and equitable implications of technology use, emphasizing the need for responsible and mindful integration.

Assessment, an integral part of the educational landscape, is accorded due attention. We delve into the purpose and significance of assessment, exploring its role in providing feedback, informing instruction, and empowering students to reflect on their learning. We advocate for the use of authentic and meaningful assessments that measure what truly matters—students' ability to apply their knowledge and skills in real-world contexts.

Throughout this book, we underscore the pivotal role of the reflective educator. We believe that effective teaching is a journey of continuous learning and self-improvement. Through self-reflection, seeking feedback, and engaging in professional development, teachers can refine their craft, adapt to the ever-changing landscape of education, and empower their students to reach their full potential.

"Empowering Learners" is an indispensable resource for educators, administrators, and policymakers seeking to transform their classrooms into vibrant and engaging learning environments. With its wealth of practical strategies, thought-provoking insights, and inspiring stories, this book will equip you with the knowledge and skills to empower your students to become lifelong learners, authors of their own stories, and explorers of the world around them.

Storytelling and fairytales have always been an important part of preserving oral culture and traditions. Fairytale is usually a short story that takes place in a magical setting, with human characters and other beings and they face different kinds of obstacles. Fairytales have worked as moral guides, entertainment, and also as inspirational stories during hard times. In this book, we will go through seven different fairytales. These are Cinderella, Snow White, Rapunzel, Puss in Boots, Hansel and Gretel, Mulan and Red Riding Hood. We will also go through different character archetypes such as the villain and the hero. Without any of the sugarcoating often found in the modern hyper-positive self-help genres, Robert Pantano attempts to provide the value of motivation and personal development through unwavering philosophical honesty. Studying and pulling from ideas in Stoicism, Existentialism, Nihilism, Absurdism, Buddhism, Taoism, and more, he combines his own thoughts with concepts from philosophy to create accessible, thought-provoking, and beautiful takeaways that will change the way you think about yourself, existence, and how to appreciate the absurdity of it all. Most of the essays contained in this book were originally published as videos seen by tens of millions of people on Pantano's popular YouTube channel, Pursuit of Wonder. Because of their popularity, he has created an organized collection of revised essays gathered in the form of this book. Not only have the essays been improved and revised, but Pantano has also added additional essays containing deeper insights about the overarching subjects covered and why he has personally found them valuable.Driven by a sense of doubt, skepticism, fascination, and a yearning for awe, The Art of Living a Meaningless Existence inspires listeners to embark on their own pursuit of wonder.

How do ancient Greek myths find themselves retold and reinterpreted in cultures across the world, several millennia later? In this volume, bestselling author Richard Buxton explores the power that eight iconic Greek myths hold in the modern world. Buxton traces these stories and archetypes from their ancient forms through their transformations over time in literature, art, cinema, psychology, and politics.

Over their long lives, Greek myths have expressed a myriad of meanings. This erudite yet accessible exploration examines how the world's most influential myths have survived to the present, and how they have shaped our ideas on everything from family and society to sexuality and culture.

As Buxton explains, each of the eight featured myths is fundamental to the way we think about ourselves and the world. The figure of Prometheus has inspired science fiction icons from Mary Shelley to Ridley Scott. The tragedy of Medea has had a profound impact on theater, feminism, and even criminology. Oedipus's influence stretches far beyond Freud. The rich visual tradition inspired by Greek myths—from pottery to paintings to popular culture—illustrates this wide-ranging, sometimes surprising study, making this book thought-provoking and a must-listen.

Multiple times a day, in cities across the US and beyond, a simple yet powerful message is repeated by the well-meaning, the ignorant, and the bigoted: “don’t go”—avoid at all costs those Black and Brown disinvested neighborhoods that have become bywords for social disorder and urban decay.

This book is a collection of intimate stories that uncover the hidden influence of both subtle and overt “don’t go” messages and the segregation they perpetuate in Chicago. Told by everyday people to Tonika Lewis Johnson and Maria Krysan—a Black artist and a White academic who met through their shared passion for anti-segregation work—the stories paint a rich picture of life in a segregated city.

One by one, the storytellers upend pessimism with candid, deeply personal, humorous, and heartbreaking tales, and with novel ideas for simple actions that can serve as antidotes to both racism and “place-ism.”

By inviting readers into the lives of regular people who have ignored the warning to stay away from “don’t go” neighborhoods or who live in those very same neighborhoods, the stories in Don’t Go illuminate the devastating consequences of racial segregation and disinvestment as well as the inevitable rewards of coming together.

“Don’t Go is a remarkable piece of work that can change how we all live. The human voices and engaging, innovative approach do more than a mountain of data ever could to bridge racial barriers. This is a powerful and compelling book.”—Lawrence D. Bobo, Harvard University

This audiobook is narrated by Robb Moreira, Jonathan Todd Ross, Kevin R. Free, Nan McNamara, Marisol Ramirez, Cindy Kay, Jasmin Walker, Lynnette R. Freeman, Tonika Lewis Johnson, and Maria Krysan.

The United States in Crisis: Citizenship, Immigration, and the Nation State argues that to preserve our freedom Americans must mount a defense of the nation state against the progressive forces who advocate for global government. The Founders of America were convinced that freedom would flourish only in a nation state. A nation state is a collection of citizens who share a commitment to the same principles. Today, the nation state is under attack by the progressive Left, who allege that it is the source of almost every evil in the world.
