Synopsis

In the heart of modern Iran, a dark secret festers, casting a long shadow over the lives of its citizens: the systematic use of torture by the state. This book unveils the disturbing reality of torture in Iran, shedding light on the hidden horrors endured by countless victims and exposing the machinery of oppression that perpetuates this heinous practice.

Drawing upon extensive research, including firsthand accounts from survivors, reports by human rights organizations, and historical documents, this book paints a chilling portrait of the methods of torture employed by the Iranian government, ranging from physical brutality to psychological manipulation. It examines the role of torture in extracting confessions, silencing dissent, and maintaining political control.

Torture in Iran is not a relic of the past; it is a persistent and pervasive problem that continues to haunt Iranian society. The book delves into the factors that contribute to the persistence of torture, including the culture of impunity that shields perpetrators from accountability, the lack of an independent judiciary, and the absence of effective legal safeguards.

Beyond the physical and psychological scars inflicted upon victims, torture has far-reaching consequences for Iranian society as a whole. It erodes the rule of law, undermines the legitimacy of the state, and stifles the voices of dissent. The book explores the broader implications of torture, examining its impact on the social fabric, the economy, and the country's international standing.

This book is a call to action, urging readers to confront the harsh reality of torture in Iran and to join the global movement demanding an end to this abhorrent practice. It is a testament to the resilience of the Iranian people, who, despite enduring unspeakable suffering, continue to fight for their fundamental rights and freedoms.

With its comprehensive analysis, firsthand accounts, and unwavering commitment to justice, this book is an essential resource for anyone seeking to understand the dark underbelly of torture in modern Iran and to advocate for change. It is a clarion call for a world where torture is consigned to the history books.

The 1984 State of the Union address, delivered January 25, 1984, praises “bipartisan cooperation” and says: “For a time we forgot the American dream isn't one of making government bigger; it's keeping faith with the mighty spirit of free people under God.” “Inflation has been beaten down from 12.4 to 3.2 percent…” “Real after-tax income increased 5 percent last year.” “We're seeing rededication to bedrock values of faith, family, work, neighborhood, peace, and freedom…”
Let us agree on goals to keep America free and secure. Our first goal is vigorous economic growth. “We can begin by limiting the size and scope of government.” The Grace Commission has 2500 recommendations to reduce wasteful spending. Also, the line-item veto which 43 of the 50 States, including California, grant their Governors is a powerful tool against wasteful spending.
Additional programs are proposed including a permanently manned space station. Tuition tax credits are recommended for parents who pay private school tuition to improve education by increasing competition among schools. School prayer and a law to protect unborn children from abortion are advocated, as are enterprise zones for high-unemployment areas.
Finally, peace is our great goal and highest aspiration. “The future is best decided by ballots, not bullets.” We will seek concerted action to combat terrorism, and work for “freer world trade, greater competition, and more open markets.” “A nuclear war cannot be won and must never be fought.”
Carl Sandburg said, “I see America in the crimson light of a rising sun fresh from the burning, creative hand of God… I see great days ahead for men and women of will and vision.''

“I feel, when we have no friends upon whom to lean, or to look for moral guidance." (Mussolini)

Benito Amilcare Andrea Mussolini, born on July 29, 1883, who went by the nickname “Il Duce” (“the Leader”), was a deeply unbalanced tyrannical Italian dictator who created the dreaded Fascist Party in 1919. Eventually, he held all power in Italy as the country’s prime minister from 1922 to 1943. An ardent socialist as a youth, Mussolini followed in his father's political footsteps but was expelled by the party for his overt support of World War I. As an evil dictator during World War II (even murdering his own son by lethal injection) he greatly overextended his forces and was eventually killed by his own people in Mezzegra, Italy. Here, for the first time, are the words of the great dictator himself in his twisted manifesto on the political movement he started and is still so feared to this very day.

In this dynamic audiobook, the specter of Benito Mussolini comes alive. Wrought in painstaking detail as to the historical and controversial nature of this work here is the larger-than-life presence of Il Duce (The Boss) who lorded over Italy as a ruthless dictator from 1925 to 1945. Here is the ultimate look at the life of one of the 20th century's most compelling and troubling figures. An amazing audiobook adventure from start to finish.

An indispensable guide to understanding the Israel–Palestine conflict, and how we might yet still find a way out of it.

"Ilan Pappe is the most original, radical and hard-hitting of Israel's 'new historians.'" —Avi Shlaim, author of Three Worlds

The devastation of 7 October 2023 and the horrors that followed astounded the world. But the Israel–Palestine conflict didn't start on 7 October. It didn't start in 1967 either, when Israel occupied the West Bank, or in 1948 when the state of Israel was declared. It started in 1882, when the first Zionist settlers arrived in what was then Ottoman Palestine. Ilan Pappe untangles the history of two peoples, now sharing one land. Going back to the founding fathers of Zionism, Pappe expertly takes us through the twists and turns of international policy towards Israel–Palestine, Palestinian resistance to occupation, and the changes taking place in Israel itself.
